Hi y´all... I wish a very good 2003 :)

So, i´m putting this one and all the links to help as many others who are crawling
the web to excell CG arts.. just like im still doing, and hope this clarify some ideas.

Just to show that light is the birth of expression:

http://sycraf.myftp.org/WIP/light_tst.jpg

The first head, IMHO its just too CG.. and if looks CG than its bad CG ;)

The second its the common put-on-the-web-to-others-see ground.. NO MOOD!
Just show the forms and adds little shadows were the form is more expansive

The 3rd one is a merge of the first 2, wich i believe its a starting point for something
more cool.. althought that lateral shot is just-for-show, a main light coming from
other angles can really show some emotions...

To further accomplish your ideas, the readings are in here:
http://www.topleftpixel.com/ila_solomon/Tutorials/tut_lighting_01.htm

and of course here (the best piece ever on the net, still waiting for part 2!!)
http://warpedspace.org/lightingT/part1.htm

To get 'GI_Joe' for maya: http://www.3dluvr.com/pixho/

Well, not going for pro-stuff like HDRI - basic still shots is it..
BUT - when redering an animation like this one (only using GI_Joe):
http://sycraf.myftp.org/WIP/walk_2_render.mpg

there are some pretty WEIRDS shadows obscuring the char...
can anyone clue me out of this one ?

Thanks!.. CG Rule!

I couldn't view the animation. What's happening with the shadows exactly?

This is the link
http://sycraf.myftp.org/WIP/walk_2_render.mpg

When the char lift his head a little bit, the area on his head gets very dark...
i dont know how to describe better than this..

Is this occuring because of the shadow maps too big or to animate
anything correctly you must go for ray-traced shadows ?

HEy Amaan, could you please tell us how you get these nice 'glows' on the objects that you lighten? I find it very hard to achieve such results myself... I'm still strugling to get an exciting and appropriate light setup myself..

Maximus, good luck on the setup, looks like you've got some nice research going on!

Maximus Groff: I sent you a private message about the avatar that you are using, but it seems that may be u didn't get to read it. I just basically wanted to ask you to please change the avatar that you are using from my website for two reasons. (1) It could make others believe that it's your artwork and not mine. (2) The avatar that u are using is based on the same character that I am using and could cause confusion among readers of our threads. I am flattered by the fact that you like my stuff and have used my artwork, but it could lead to confusions. Therefore, I'd like to ask you to please select a different one. Thanks!

Renzsu: I do that using a plugin filter in lightwave called Bloom

I was like "That guy is using Maya now?" and "why does he need help on setting up Lights for! " I mean he can apply one priniciple to either program right...and now I see...someone swipe ur artwork.

Does this plugin come with LW7.5? Or can we download it somewhere?

Thread has went the way of the dinosaur....

But here's a link of an image..man
Its been a year already, ...working on Shazam now seems like I haven't touched my personal characters ina while and it has..
Glad you like him, though.

OK ... no problem Amaan, Stalberg had the same problem.
i think it helps to have ur own avatar so ppl can quickly identify
who it is.

Maybe I can help

These are the elements of a successful lit character

1. Warm Key
2. Cool Fill
3. Bounce light
4. rim lights (maybe 2 of them)
5. kick lights same as rim but more frontal

Also the lights should have lots of color in them. white lights are boring.

There you go
Thats all you need
