hello peoples,
i am a maya newbie, and wanna learn lowpoly modelling for games...
i have a question for shading/rendering lowpoly....

on the picture below u can see my problem.

a) hard edges
i have tweak this with normal display > harden/soften but now there are...

b) dark areas
how can i fix that?
i have played with lower angles - but there are still hard edges...
and i have played with incandenscenes (material attribute) - this is fine in my
openGLview but when i render - it sucks!

ok - i hope somebody is understandind my problem and can help me out...

QUESTION:
WHAT IS STANDART FOR DiSPLAYING LOW POLY OBJECTS FOR GAMES
IN MAYA ?

thx in advance...

so here is how i resolve problems like this:

1. model the entire object
2. go to normals menu with the whole object selected, then coose set vertex normals option box. check unlock normals and then click apply
3. soften harden ---> soften all normals (this time i get your picture b.
4. choose the edges i want to harden (this way dark areas removed) then soften harden ----> all hard

that's all.
hope i helped!!

comic-like look (no shadows & bright "incandenscene" texture)
is there a trick?
