Hi, i am in need of some help because i am totally confused.

i just got a new PC for christmas, and i want to install my 3dsmax4 onto it. I already have it installed on this computer currently.

Now i tried to read the booklet about locks and authorixation etc etc, and i am completely confused, and i didnt want to go ahead because it said it would not work after 15 days if i didnt authorize, so i turn to you CgTalk crew :)

has anyone done this before, install to a new computer
my old one was windows 98 and this new one is XP

is it just like i did for this install..... install and the request authoriztion, or do i have to go in and copy and paste the file and take it to the new PC ( im so confused) ( i mean i bought this software, you think it would be made so i dont get scared it might not be useable after 15 days)

ok help please :)
i have faith in you CgTalkers

i will get the installation booklet out again once someone replies.. i cant see anything but a jumble of letters i have read it so many times *hehe*
*waits patiently*

I have the same problem. Whenever I load Max, I have to call the Discreet for a new authorization code.

All you have to do is when it starts up click the option that allows you to authorize it. Then go through the step by step process of filling out the form. After you enter your information and receive your authorization code then click back all the way to where you started when you chose that option. Now you enter your authorization code and you are all set to go.

Another problem I had, which is why I have to call in is because it says I am over the max number of times I can receive an authorization code. If you have that problem most like you will have to call in. If you don't then you receive your auth code with no problem.

Hope this info helps.

Hi Nikodemus. You should not have a problem re-authorizing your Max. Do the steps like Xilica mentioned and get a new authorization code. You are allowed 3 re-authorizations via the internet authorization process from Max before having to call Discreet. And even if you do have to call Discreet, don't worry, they are very understanding. How do I know, well I was hit with the W32.Klez virus and had to re-authorize several times before I got everything running correctly again but everytime I called Discreet was very nice. Just do a re-authorize through Max with the steps like Xilica mentioned, you will be okay. Should be no problem.

By the way, just a friendly suggestion, the W32.Klez virus can really screw up a Max workstation. Be sure to run good virus protection software on that new computer of yours.

you can also transfer your license from one computer to another with the portable license utility. all you need for that is a floppy disk. although max won't work on the first computer after you transfer. no big deal if your getting rid of your old computer.

Hi Nikodemus. That is my intention too like you said about keeping the Max workstation free of all other software and keep it "clean" for Max only. I will be upgrading to a new machine this year also like yourself and I'll do like you are saying, keep the second computer for surfing the internet and doing office stuff. Max runs sooooo much better on a nice clean machine.
