Ihave a question here : is the specular map is the inverse of the bimp map?

Hmmm... no, not really.
They are really quite different. Although, it is important to remember to include any details that appear in one of the maps to all the others, I'd have to say that the bump and spec maps can't be inverted and then used as the other.
Depending on the details in them, and depending on what kind of surface you were making, I suppose that *technically* you could invert your bump map to start off your spec map, but then only certain parts of it might work as desired.

If you have a look here (http://leigh.cgcommunity.com/making_of.htm), you can read through a little piece that I wrote about how I textured the head of an orc that I am working on. Towards the end of the article, I wrote a bit about the different maps, and I how I make them in Photoshop. You can see all the maps that I used, and you can see how they relate to one another.

Well, I am South African, born in this country, although I am actually mostly of English blood ;)
Here in Cape Town, I used to work for a visual effects company, but I left them a few months ago to persue some of my own projects :)
