hi, new around here.
I'm having an issue with the light in my maya project. It keeps passing right through my polygons without seeming to cast shadows. I have one key light in the scene, a spot light behind the character. And i'm getting a lot of light catching on his lower eyelids, lips and nose. Anyone have any advice on how i'd go about fixing that, if i just wanted the character backlit, without the highlights on eyelids/lips/nose?

( i hid his left eyeball to accentuate the lighting/poly issue )

assuming you do have shadows turned on, try turning off mid dist dmap in the light's shadow settings. then if you have problems with light bleed, play with the shadow bias.
