Microsoft's Too Human is a bit of a mystery, but we've a sexy new shot for you to goggle at that'll hopefully help make things clearer.
It's been in the pipeline for a long time. Developed by Silicon Knights (Eternal Darkness, Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes) and previously intended for GameCube, Too Human sounds like an extremely ambitious production: a third-person epic that's attempting to blend the complex combat of a beat-'em-up with some gorgeous environments and large-scale battles. And it's just the first part of a trilogy...
Too Human's looking dark and mature, and is setting its sights really very high. We've little idea of how it'll turn out, but this year's E3 will likely offer some answers.

Gun, sword, armour, techno-environment, strong near-to-bald man looking angry, overdone glare (when will glare be something that isn't overdone?)
Are you so desperate for me to make harsh comments about the originality and beauty of current games that you found a screenshot which is neither but shows some new technological 'thingies'?.. Ok, annoying sarcasm aside. Are you?
Hehe, the word 'mature' has lost some of it's meaning to me after a lecture I participated on school featured a new game that had "some more mature themes; we got prostitutes". But that may just be me. Plenty of things to do in a game which do not make it rated mature but still make the game feel mature thoughts.

Not super impressive, but the fact they made Eternal Darkness buys them more than enough good will to overlook it.

yea i have to agree with you there, games with so called mature themes seem to appeal to young teenagers with an obsession for blood gore and violence, and wanting to get a peek at some boobies every chance they get.

If you guys have played Eternal Darkness, I'd say that was a mature video game. So hopefully when they are talking about Silicon Knights next game as being mature, it will be more in the vein of ED.
I need to play ED again.

I'm not overly impressed by visuals, but I gotta admit, Too Human looks pretty nice. Likewise, it's not the graphics that draw me in to a game - it's story and gameplay. Reading EGM's article on the game tells me this is a game that I'd definately be interested in. To be honest, there's not a lot of new games that've caught my eye; IMO, they're mostly glorified sliced bread killers that look pretty. That's how I've felt for quite some time. Maybe it's growing up with games from the days before the NES hit/became huge, maybe I've just become jaded from not being able to keep up with the Joneses. I don't really know.
Too Human does sound promising. The whole idea of being based on the Norse mythology or the mythology being based on the events of the game is a nice setup. Not too sure on the controls, but it seems easy enough. Silicon Knights seems to want a game that delivers something we haven't yet seen or done, and they may be right. If I don't have a 360 by the time this one launches, I'm certainly going to have to scrape the money together then.
Forget Halo 3, Half-Life: Episode 1, BioShock... Too Human may be the game to keep up with.
Just my opinion. However, there's also Fallout 3 to contend with, so I may abandon TH at the drop of a hat if neccessary. Of if EA ever decides to do something with System Shock (beyond renewing the trademark).... *shudder*

Silicon knights does make very nice and polished games but I can't help but cringe reading this interview:

PS>If anyone wants to read an insane Ring Cycle-based story, give the Gap series by Stephen R Donaldson a try.

Just a few years ago, blockbuster games were reputed to cost up to $10 million to make. Today, Kosak says, the cost for a single next-generation title — like Too Human — runs between $80 and $100 million.
Whoa. 80 - 100 Million Budget?! that's freaking insane. I haven't heard of anybody else doing games with that high a budget.

80 - 100 mill, woohaa, I don't get it. This will defenetly mean getting in is going to be ever so harder than before

I agree. That is quite insane. I was baffled when I heard rumours eminating from inside Sony that next-gen game projects are expected to sell 1.6 million units before they get green-lit for production. Hearing figures like that puts things into perspective alright... :surprised

I wonder how much of that is due to the long development and how much is for the eye candy? With so much demand for the best possible everything, budget requirements are going to keep going up just to keep up with what most of the gaming populace wants, expects and demands. Gaming may be more popular and accepted now, which does translate into more people that have the games and systems, but if you end up with a budget like this, it's going to be harder and harder to make back that investment, if at all. Plus, Too Human doesn't sound like a title that the causual gamer would dive into without a second thought. Games may sell more copies than say a game in the NES/SNES era or the Playstation era, but if the game costs more just to make...
Console prices may have dropped (or they drop sooner), but most games cost as much as they did back in the 8-bit era, if not more. Something tells me Too Human might not come in at the same price as a game like street Fighter UltraMegaHyperSuperDuper 2 Deluxe, the next Tetris clone or even something like Halo 3, especially with $80-100 Million in baggage.
Maybe they'll operate at a loss? Microsoft did with the XBox. I'm not sure, but I think it's the same with the 360. The PS3 could be a money loser for Sony - scratch that, it will be, unless Sony decided to milk everything out of its consumers/gamers. Working with Microsoft, they [SK] may be prepared to not make everything back, unless the game really is the next best thing.
I just hope TH doesn't end up like Daikatana. Don't get me wrong, Daikatana is a decent game, certainly worthy of a warmer recpetion that it got. But the hype machine crippled it and an overambitious development didn't make it any easier to recover. At least Too Human isn't Silicon Knights' first project...

everyone knows that boobies drive the story!

80-100 mill is complete bull. My best guess for a top top top of the line next gen game would be 30 mill.
You can make an amazing game (with the right people) for 10 mill.
