A new Earthworm Jim title is in the pipeline for next-gen consoles, according to a source close to the game's development.

What makes this more exciting than the bog-standard whispered announcement, though, is that it's going to be created by the team behind the original game. This includes the founder of Shiny Entertainment and the co-founder of Planet Moon Studios, along with respected, long-serving tunesmith Tommy Tallarico, and more.

For those of you without mortgages or pensions, Earthworm Jim debuted on Sega's Mega Drive back in 1994, making a name for itself with an overdose of demented personality and lots of colourful action. And, for some of you, the prospect of a new EJ crafted by the original team is probably just as exciting as anything that E3 has to throw at us.

Yay, but, um, is Doug TenNapel -- you know, the guy who invented Earthworm Jim -- involved? They say that Tommy Tallarico *coughattentionwhorecough* is involved, but not TenNapel? Sigh.

hahhah haha yea some people just crave attention.

earthworm jim was a really nice game, who would ever of thought of a worm with arms carrying a lazer gun being the pinnacle of gaming.

Woa! Cool! i think Earthworm Jim was one of the most funy, creative and enjoyable game i ever played in the super nintendo, it was brilliant; i really like the second one too, but when i saw what they do with the translation to the N64 i loose interest.

I never play it (EWJ 3) but i read it wasnt very good; imo the earthworm jim franchise should have stay being in 2d, not sure why... maybe cause you can get away with more fluidly cartoony animation or maybe i just miss that good old 2d gameplay... anyway, hope this turns out good.

the reason the cartoon sucked was because Doug TenNapel was not involved. Same with the 3d game. I supposed this one will suck too :( its a shame

Why such a hard-on for Doug TenNapel? He created the concept, but Dave Perry, Andy Astor and Nick Bruty made the games what they were. Looking back it was a solid platformer but not stellar, and the second game was far superior. Doug TenNapel had next to nothing to do with it.

Even with Dave Perry and Nick Bruty I'm not so sure they can repeat that success. I really hope they can, but it doesn't seem like platormers are too lucrative nowadays.

I just wanted TenNapel on board as a sort of guarantee it'll be wacky, but you're right, I should have said Perry and all them. My bad.

Most of this is just borne out of my hatred of Tommy Tallarico.

Oh man this is weird! We were JUST talking at work how there should be a new Earthworm Jim game!

Maybe I should start talking at work about hitting the lottery...

I think the TV show was great. It would be nice to see EJ again but only if it's of the same quality as Ratchet and Clank, Jak and Daxter, or Sly Cooper.

Yeah he was. He was in the credits every week, and he was even in an episode once.

For all you Doug TenNapel fans, he's currently working on a CG short film for Frederator called "Solomon Fix". Here's a link to the show's production blog: http://frederatorblogs.com/the_doug_tennapel_project

Doug is on the blog quite a bit, so stop by and check out the project, ask questions about Earthworm Jim, or just follow the making of the show. Tell them Floyd sent ya!

Also, TenNapel has done several comic books, including Tommysaurus Rex (eh), Earthboy Jacobus (pretty good), and Creature Tech (holyshitsoawesome).

Man, why oh why are they making more of these games. the first 2 are classic, anything they did afterwards was average at best.
