Hi

Is it possible to have more than 24 materials in the Material Editor ?

I start building a cockpit, and I think I'm gonna have more than 24 materials

Thanks :arteest:

no
after you apply the mats to the objects and run outa mat slots
jsut reset the mat slots and it shoul keep the mat on your object

or use sub object materials and IDs

You can only show a maximum of 24 materials in the editor, but as long as you keep the material names unique I don't know of a limit for a scene.

Just make a new material and give it an orginal name. Then using the scene explorer panel in the material editor you can go back through and edit any material in the scene.

Yes, in fact you can have as many as your scene will need.. i don't know a case that anyone run out of slot's..

the problem is that you can only see 24 on material editor, as Taoizm says, you give a correct name to you're material and just make a new one, the first will not apear in material editor but is recorded in the material list ! They are all there...

thanks you all for your help

It's all very usefull, and I'll start on the right foot :)

I think I'll start a matrix on paper to keep track of the names and channels used.

I might add that the way to look at the MAX material editor is not in the nature of it being your material pallete. Its almost like a program that lets you create up to 24 materials at a time, and if you use more than that, supposedly you'd be finished with at least half of them and would no longer need them in the editor all the time.
When you need to make an adjustment, you take the material from the mesh back into the material editor for servicing you might say. Thats how it works.

I got an another question regarding the material :curious:

Is the material effects channel specific to the material
ie: is there 15 channel per material or it's there 15 channel for every channel ?

thanks
