It looks like a graphics card issue, what type are you running?

NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 440. Thats weird that it would be that? Its never happened before!

Is this a new problem? Like just started acting up on this project? I had a simular problem with the orthographic view ports and in the persp one the local/global ball on the extrude face tool was a square that I couldn't select/click. I updated my drivers and everything worked.

But if this is just happening on this project then try restarting your machine.

yeah it just started with this project. I restarted my machine and also restored the default settings but still nothing. I was using feet for the unit of measurment. But I am thinking of going back to centimeters. Could that be the problem?

with the mx card...I would think that would be the problem. Plus, its sounds like you have a big scene going...do you have enough ram to handle that?

(sorry for butting in : )

John, I don't think butting in is a problem for me at this point. The more feedback the better! I wouldn't think that the large scene would be a problem, I have worked with larger more complex scenes than this one. BTW I have a gig on the memory! Thanks!

rickmann, good to hear. Unfortunatly I believe your problem is due to your graphics card. This is off Alias's site.

"Nvidia GeForce256, GeForce2, GeForce3, GeForce4 series
There are many cards based on GeForce256, GeForce2, GeForce3 and GeForce4 chipsets. Nvidia and Alias do not recommend these cards for use with Maya as you may experience various refresh, display and stability problems and inadequate performance.
We suggest you choose from Nvidia's workstation cards instead, such as the Quadro families which are much better suited to high-end 3D packages such as Maya."

http://www.alias.com/eng/support/maya/qualified_hardware/QUAL/maya_60_win.html

They mention display troubles there. Even though you may have used it for a while and not had this trouble...never rule it out. I own a Geforce 4 mx and Geforce 4 Titanium and I have had similar troubles with both in other programs and even games at the time while they were top notch cards. Also, I would put in another gig of ram when you get a chance. I have 1 gig on one of my computers running maya and it works ok but two gigs runs things alot smoother. I don't believe the ram is your trouble though.

Hope this helps : )
