View Full Version : C4d8 Crashes!!!
mecha 01-01-2003, 10:52 AM Hello,
I am overjoyed with C4D8 except for the continual crashes I keep getting, especially when switching on & off the Claude Bonnet tool. Does anyone know of any issues with the following set-up?
Dell Precision MT220
Dual Pentium PIII 800 Processors
640 mb PC800 ECC RDRAM
8gb Internal IDE Harddrive + 120gb External USB2 Harddrive
32 Meg Matrox G400 Max
Windows 2000 Service Pack 3
Cinema 4D 8 XL (without Net Render installed)
Office XP
Photoshop 6
Macromedia Studio MX
All software is legal, no warez or cracked software!
I know the hardware is a little old, but the Ram is keeping me goin for now! :)
Thanks in advance!

Hi,
right now there is a known bug that results in crashes. Dual systems are hurt most. This will be fixed in the next version.

Hello again!
When you say "next version", do you know if this is C4D9 or an update that will make the program more stable, like a C4D8.1 or something?
mecha
It will be an 8.x version like there were 7.1, 7.2 and 7.303 for the Release 7.
As usual with Maxon these updates are (or will be) available for free as downloads on the Maxon website.

Me and at least one other poster on the forum experiance crash whenever rendering a scene with instances.
"Instruction 0x007ce089 referred to memory at 0x000000ac, the memory could not be read." (Not the exact wording, translated from Swedish dialog).
If there is an instance in the model (even the instance doesn't point to any object) it will crash with the exact same message.
I do not think it's a memory problem as I get the exact same address faulting to the same address no matter what other applications etc is up and running at the time.
Looks like a clearcut dereferencing a nullpointer and accessing one of its members bug to me!
My version is 8.012 but there are no patches/updates available as far as I am aware of.
As r8 cannot save to r7 format it's totally useless for me.
Anybody else with Radeon 9700 Pro card being able to render scens with instances?
MAXON says it is a memory error on my machine but in my world that's the standard tech response.:thumbsdow

Hi,
my answer to your problem wasn't that it is a memory problem but that it seems to be one. The main problem is that neither i nor one of our beta testers were able to confirm this problem. This points very strong to a problem on your machine or some very strange combination problem.
Have you tried this on a second machine?
Best regards

I've downloaded the r8 demo and it worked fine when rendering instances. All this points to a problem with one or more of the installed files so I reinstalled the whole shebang and taram!
It works, rendering instances and all. Thanks for your help and I hope I haven't sounded too grumpy about it.
OT R8 is WAY faster at rendering than R7. One of my scenes was a bit slower on R8 (I thought) until I noticed that the R8 file had Radiosity ON while the R7 one had it OFF!
Phew :)
Thanks for the reply

Try to use the standard layout while in Claude for now as the mocca layout brings out the worst in this soon to be dead bug. It minimised the problems for me...Phil
