View Full Version : Futurama - Bender - Fun Project
Migibutt 01-01-2003, 10:15 AM Hi,
this is just a fun project, I started a while ago. I would say modeling is 99% complete and my textures are just a simple tryout. I know they arent good. Maybe I will give Bender a more cartoonish look. What do u think?
Regards

the model is lack of details..... the body should be able to open and all.... instead of just modelling the shape of the "door"....

Hmmm, more details? Do u mean money in his hands and a cigar in his mouth? ;)
Oh, and the door can be opened! Just forget to show u!

Yes u r right with the clean look of Bender. But like i said, its just something I will work on.
And maybe u r right with the size of the "aten"?" thing. I will check that out. :D As reference i used a plastic figure, no picture...
Thx for all replies so far...

and yeah ur fingers aren't long and big enough.....
Migibutt
01-01-2003, 02:29 PM
Wow!
U pay much attention to details, I like that. And yes, if I am looking so on my model, I must agree that the fingers are a bit "thin" and maybe just a little little bit to short. I will fix that tonnight.
Bye Migi
P.S.: Happy new year all....sorry i forgot to say that!

also on tv his feet are completely round, not elongated like you've done here, looking good though

It looks to me like you're also missing a finger on each side ;)

WOOOHOOOOO!!! I LOOOOOOOOOVE Futurama!!!!! :D:D:D
Looking cool, I think!
You should make a beer bottle for him, and put some stolen goods in his belly ;)
It would be cool to see him with some different expressions too...
If you make Zoidberg too, you'll be my hero!

keep magnents(sp?) away from him

Wow, thx again for the comments and the critics. I am working on some more "toys" for Bender right now. And I will try to pose him more naturally...
squidinc Hmmm, in the cartoon his feet look a bit different then my model, but I have somewhere a picture of a figure...there the feet look like the one i modeled. I guess...its always hard to convert 2D into 3D, without changing a bit of the shape. I dont mean the feet right now...but u know what i mean.
Vanje Not sure, how many more fingers Bender should get , but I guess 3 are enough. ;) Maybe u cant see it, because i rendered him i such a "bad" view.
Leigh Hrhrh thx Leigh. Maybe u wanna texture him for me? I dont have any great experience in other things then modeling. And yes to model Zoidberg would be a interesting. How about starting a CG Challenge...model the Futurama Crew. HRHRHHRHRHR. <- Bender's laugh
Okidoki...lets see if I can "satisfy"u all with my next update...

Here's what I made in about an hour...Fry....hope you don't mind...

Okay I've got a nice idea! ... I think...
How about making a group-photo when the main characters are done?:scream:

In a related story...
For those who get Cartoon Network, they just added "Futurama" to the Adult Swim block. I don't know what their plans for the series are (playing them in order, continuing the show after Fox is done, etc) but it's cool that the series has legs!!

I'll send my obj to migi if he wants them....then he could setup the scene...of course entirely up to him:shrug:

Hey again,
first of all I am really lucky, how much response we get here. So, lets count what we got...
We have Bender, Fry, Zoidberg (maybe?!) and maybe more.
Remi wants me to put all in one scene...but maybe i am not the right one for this. I am just a modeler... I dont have much knowledge in animation, rendering aso. I mean, i just have probs to texture this "stupid" beer bottle. :hmm:
So, anybody out there, who want this "job"? :D
Or wait, what about a little futurama contest. Everybody who has made a character of futurama here get the models of the others...and lets see who renders the best pic.
Bye Migi
I'll do it if you want...I just thought since this was your thread you should be the one to do it..but i like the idea of a little render contest too....anyone up for it..

Hey, I'm your man!
I'd really love to render a group-photo of our futurama buddies!:scream:

Ok then.
Which 3D format do you prefer? Personally I use Maya but I should be able to export Bender as .obj or .3ds or whatever. Just let me know.
And of course, I need your E-Mail adress!

Oh,
one question for "FeRdI". What did u used for setting up Bender? I quickly build a skeleton for him, but I am not sure, if Deformers would be better for the legs and arms. Any hint?
Bye Migi
Entangle
01-11-2003, 12:53 AM
thats waaaayyy too many polys for such a simple model. Reduce it some!

Hey Migibutt,
It turned out that bones would be the easiest way for my model; just like yours.
btw, what program are you using? I use Max.

i agree with entangle, make the model soften...
and after tha, make some funny movie :)

Hi,
I know my model is kinda high count, but when u use Polys, u have to use many faces...for keeping the edges round enough. Originally, I build my model as LOW Poly version, converted it then to SubD's and then...back to polys.
But in Maya, there is a new feature...called SubD to Nurbs. I will check this out now, and hey, maybe i get a nice clean Nurbs Bender.
@ FeRdI. So u use a skeleton too. I think thats the easiest way to rig Bender, but I am a bit unsure, how scaling, rotating and twisting of benders arms and legs will work. Oh and btw, I use Maya 4.5.
Bye then
Migi
P.S.: Meanwhile i "optimized" my high poly version (- ~4000 faces).
