Stu .... best wishes for 2 00 3

Looks cool!!!!!, but maybe some fog in the scene would make it even better - the image is too 'crisp' now, If you know what I mean - it could do with a bit of 'Indiana Jones' feel or something, but the general feel is great!!!!!!!

Looks very cool! Great composition too!

Yes, the new lighting rig will probably sort out some of the issues in the foreground.

Also, Some subtle color variation in the wall on the right would help balance out the scene. Right now the scene tends meld together a bit since most of the color is the so similar.

Looking forward to your next rev!

Thanks guys

Creart - Ya same to you to bud....may 2003 bring us all very very large LOTTO wins

Medula - Ya agree totally about the color :) I am trying to make a wall of faces now,and its taking some time.

Heres a tip I have found that will save you some time {some of you probably already do it anyway} Make a duplicate of your scene, then take off all the materials and add lights to your hearts content, even volumetrics render in no time flat whilst you are experimenting.Once you have your lighting rig semi sussed out, save your file and paste the rig into your original file :)

That is very interesting, but perhaps just a little too lacking in tonal variation :)
It might help to add just subtle variations of colour into the textures to make it a little more interesting.

The glow coming from the opening could also be carried a little further into the scene, along with some nice creeping shadows.
Speaking of shadows, at the moment your shadows are a bit too deep (dark). No shadows in reality can be truly black, and although sometimes it is nice to make them black for effect, I don't think it really suits this scene, since there is more than enough light coming from that opening to add a faint light to the entire stairwell, just casting shadows from the bits of rock that are jutting out.

The rock textures also look a tiny bit too plasticky. Try bringing down the spec and gloss amounts to get a more dispersed lighting on the surface.

Otherwise, a nice image though :D

that's looking good stu :) the one thing is though the lighting could do with being a little more dynamic... it's alittle too even right now. maybe make it a little more contrasty, make that light to right/behind the viewer a little stronger/more contrasty. also the firelight in the mouth/cave could have a little more direction... perhaps more light from the bottom... or if it's coming from torches in there then from around wall bracket height. you can also probably make a couple of fake light reflection lights to give a bit of an eiry glow to the inside of the cave.

anyhow it's really coming along nicely so keep at it

Hey Stu,

This already looks much better - it has more depth 'cause of the darker area's. Per's idea about reflection lights inside the cave are cool - you could also consider throwing some shadow from the cave - someone standing inside or something to raise even more questions about the picture..

Cheers Hans

Ok this is my next render...crits for this one please :) ......has to much contrast now yes?

I think it's improving every time! the contrast - the darker areas around the opening of the cave, now draw much more attention there - you'd expect it to become some sort of 'Psycho' scene (In a Lord of the Ring'ish kind of way) and something horrible coming out of that opening..

Keep up the good work!!!

Something coming out of the cave is something I have been thinking about actually, then I can play with more fire too

Hey Stu

for an animation I would surely get something coming out of that cave, but for this still just leave it to the imagination, maybe just the shadow (sort of Sauron-like) coming out could get the extra adrenalin pumpin'.....

by the way, did the Bhodinut fog work in r8 yet?

I have not tried Bhodi fog yet in 8 bud :) ......8 just does not recognise Praline at all.

I like that shadow idea as well
