Title: Curumins
Name: Orly Wanders de Oliveira
Country: Brazil
Software: Painter, Photoshop

Well... after a long time here we go...

Based upon a Brazilian legend, these boys set out to a long journey, full of adventures, on board of their boat made of the bark of a tree... through the rivers inside the Amazon forests.

Many references were used during the entire painting process... some like the major tree behind the boys took extra researsh time to be found and photographed, but the real nightmare was to make the lighting scheme to work properly...
size was up to 120cm x 80cm or 48in x 32in.

ps: In the case of you don´t know, Curumim means indian child in Tupi-guarani language.

Your research and hard work paid off _ this is a fantastic picture. The figures each have a strong personality, the monkey adds a nice touch of mystery and a connection between the characters and the would they're in, and the lighting and vegetation create magic, too. This is a five-starmasterpiece.

Astounding work! That forest is the stuff of legends!

The light bouncing over the vitória-régia (sorry, don´t know the name of the aquatic plant in english) is wonderful, as well as the plants themselves. The atmosphere is cool, too.

Parabéns, cara! Está show de bola, para o que é essa imagem, é para o Challenge? Posta aí uns WIPs para acompanharmos como você fez.

This should get 5 stars! I love the dreamy background, it reminds me of masters from the 18th century like Watteau, the wealth of details is amazing.
I have 2 questions though, you seem to have chosen 2 different colors for the light. It is generally a warm bright yellow except in the upper right corner where you chose a cooler bleu. Was it intentional?
In the center, at the top of the painting, there is a "bubble" it seems you used Liquifie or a similar deform filter, maybe i'm wrong, was it part of your technique to diffuse the light?
Anyway, congrat on producing such a great piece, it's such a pleasure to look at!

WOW!
Great piece, I would print it and put it in every travel agency in Manaus :)
As someone who was lucky enouth to cruise the Amazone, the atmosphere you created is better than the real thing.
Amazing!

Thanks you all for the replies,

Zboubi, thanks for the stars and and the compliments, about the light colors they ended up with so much contrast because of the tree... actually in my references the light changes colors very smothly... about the buble thing you pointed out, I think if you look closer you will noticed that's just the arc from the branchs of the trees.

Au79, hoppefully an idea that the travel agencies would not regret... thanks...

SpiritDreamer, thank you I'll see if I can full fill all the necessary requirements...

Best regards to you all

I must say that I found this painting absolutely stunning.
Everything just works so well together, the colours, light and subject matter.
There really isn't much else I can say seeing as everyone has said it already.
Keep up the great work!
