View Full Version : Feburary PA challenge, Deadline and Submissions info [UPDATED]

Hi gang, it's been a very long day today, trying to figure out the best way to organize these challenges until cgcommunity.com becomes live :)

So without further adue, the official deadline is MARCH 8TH, 2002 - MIDNIGHT EST TIME this gives pretty much everyone across the globe a full day to finalise their entries...

as for the submissions, the current thumbnail page will be the basis for your votes, there will be no need to send your images anywhere so this is what is needed

- all challengers that wish to be considered for voting
MUST SUBMIT THEIR 3D/2D THUMBNAILS HERE (http://lildragon.cgcommunity.com/cgc_feb_thumbs) (please read the text on top)

- if your entry is not on this page by the end of the challenge it WILL not be included in the voting list

- voting will commence in the same fashion as the last challenge using the thread polls, I know this is cumbersome but it's the best we have at the moment

- when voting you would visit the above page (http://lildragon.cgcommunity.com/cgc_feb_thumbs) to think about the artist you wish to vote for

- there will be a Submit your vote button there by that time

- once that button is clicked you'll be taken to the thread poll where you can cast your vote for your favorite entry

- each category will have their own poll threads, so there's no confusion

Like I said b4 I know this is cumbersome, but until the final release of cgcommunity, this will have to do for now....

good luck everyone

Cheers

Almost forgot the new challenge topic will be posted on Saturday March 9th and won't officially begin till the following Monday, March 11th...

also PLEASE refrain from starting the new challenge until this forum has be ported over to the archive, this is very important, or else your March topic might end up in the archive section :)

How will this work for animations? This will have a huge impact on my piece. This question may be answered on the submit pages but they're down right now. I just need to know whether I need to focus on getting tight stills or finishing my animation.

Thanks!

I dont think the server can handle all the volume.
Im sure it will get fixed by tomorrow.

/sigma holds onto his tumbnail in anticipation :)

YemYam do some stills.

lildragon
03-08-2002, 09:54 AM
keep in mind yem yam, these challenges are modeling challenges the focus was only on modeling, textures and animation are indeed eye candy, but won't have much impact on final voting (tho by doing them it gives yourself added popularity ;))

P.S. yeh the site is down, even the email server, don't worry this domain was built to withstand the traffic CGC gives :), this is temporary

Ok, only to be sure to understand this - I have a thumb in the WIP Challenge Overview - now, do I have to post my finished (no - it's rather unfinished) work into this new section (which I cannot enter - server down?) or am I automatically picked up?

lildragon
03-08-2002, 07:29 PM
if you're already on the Complilation page, then all you have to do is update your thumbnail and when the site goes back online you'll be updated ;)

lildragon
03-08-2002, 07:44 PM
Here's what I'm planning to do, I will need everyone to post their final images in their threads, and on the thumbnail page it will be as follows

- when you click on the username of a challenger it'll take you to their thread

- when you click their thumbnails it'll pop up the final rendered image

this way you can show of your final results flown blown without digging thru lots of threads

So you want us to add to our thumbs and threads list a link to our "final" renderings - am I right, ok...
but how do you want us to do that - shall we edit our postings or shall we make new ones or... what do you want?

lildragon

Tito, just wanted to make sure that Joe and I only end up on the ballot once . . . we've got a link in the landscape section and the character one, but it should really only be judged as a single, collaborative piece when it comes time to vote.

I've already post the final pic of my contributition.
In the thumbnail preview page is the previous version.
What must I do to update it?

The new link would be now: http://www.formaantiqva.com/pabbloz/imagenes/totitch/pabbloz.jpg

Thanks a lot.
You're making a great job as moderator :p

Hey Lil Dragon,

I just posted my final images, but the voting page links to a previous post of mine. Don't know if you've just not updated it lately or not. I'm out of the office as of now, but I'll try to check my email in a bit. The very last image is the one that should come up when they click on the thumbnail.

Thanks to you and all the other mods for giving us this opportunity.

so, are all entries going to be 'thrown into the same pot' or are there going to be 3 categories (character, vehicle, landscape) for the final rating ?

If it is 3 categories, then the collaborative pieces (not sure there is a lot in this challenge, just thinking ahead for the next challenges) should probably not add up their votes from the different categories, right ? Or is it going to be divided by the number of participants to get the median ? ;) I mean, I might want to rate the elements of the entry differently. What if somebody did a great vehicle with a lousy landscape and posted it in both categories ? Could he win the landscape category just because of the vehicle. Did I miss something ? I am confused !

If there is just one category for the ratings, I it is going to be pretty hard to vote (how do you compare a landscape to a vehicle or a character ?). And the situation with collaborative pieces pretty messy (how do you deal with the issue of single people projects vs. group projects).

Hey, lildragon. Could I, please, be removed from the voting page. I had no time to work on it, I didn't like how it came out anyways, and really don't want to know my markings.

Maybe I'll have more time for the next one. :-/

Thanx.
