View Full Version : uv mapping is erking me off!
F-Curve_Fiendish 04-15-2006, 01:32 AM hey guys, i hope someone here would be kind enough to help me out. here is my problem.
1. i made a quick selection set for a bunch of faces for uv texture layout. ie. one quick selection set for the face, one for the body, one for the arms, etc.
2. then for example with the quick selection set for the human face, i made a uv layout and all is going good so far.
3. then i made a quick selection set for the human body and laid out the uvs afterwards.
4. but when i go back to my quick selection set for the face, i cant find my the uv's for my face.
5. another weird thing is that when i go to uv mode for the model in 3d space, i dont see any uv's for the face, but the other body parts have the uv's.
can anyone help me out, my project is due soon and i am dead meat.

what happens if you apply a checker pattern to the face? Does it show up?

hey, yah the checkboard map i applied for the face is still there. its just the uv's for the face are gone in the texture editor as well as on the model, the uv's on the face is gone.

could they have got accidentally repositioned? If you select a UV on the model in persp view - or select a vertex and go to 'selection - convert to uv' in the uv tex editor then in the tex editor window press the f key it should autofocus on the uv for you. ou can then zoom and and see exactly where it is

i have tried everything to bring up the uv's but they wont show. its very odd that the u.v's that i made for the body are still showing on the body as well the u.v. editor. but every other body part is missing the u.v's, only the latest quick selection will show up as in the editor or even in the model itself.

Did u accindentally transfer your face UVs to another uv set? To check it out, just open up the texture editor, select your model, right click on the uv layout of the texture editor, browse down to the last item of the pop up menu. u might have two uv sets there.....at least that's what it sounds like on the face of it :p

you know what? i had assumed that it had something to do with having the "creat new uv set" option checked on in the cylindrical mapping box. and as soon as i turned it off and re-did the uv layouts, it had worked out fine. honestly i still dont get what "uv sets" are about. i tried reading it on the maya help files, but i still couldnt understand it from "just reading it" point of view. i had no idea on how to get to t he uv sets.
but thanks to your input, i kind of understand this uv set and how to go about getting the sets. thanks for your time in reading and responding to my question.
