This an image of a soldier leaving his family to go to war. (Wherever that war is...) I'm currently in the military and so is my Fiancee. This image is inspired by the fact that he will possibly be leaving for Iraq.

A very worthwhile piece obviously, and one being so close to your heart it will be both fullfilling and difficult.
The composition is a good beginning. The boy standing off a bit from his Mom in that pose is very strong even at this early stage. I'm not so sure that you want to block his body with the Father . . . though I see you're trying to tie it/the family all together.
Would this be at the airbase . . . could he have something in his hand that belonged to his wife, son, daughter . . .? to add to the emotion
I hope you can finish this one and that no one has to go!!! I was in during Viet Nam . . .

Thank you for posting your comments of my peice. Hopefully it does work out. I did try moving the son over, but nothing of what I try seems to work out. I'm trying not to block out too much of the back ground, because it is going to help in conveying the emotion of this peice with having dark clounds rolling in, darkening the once blue, pretty sky. I really like your idea of incorporating something his wife has given him into the picture. I think this is going to be in his free hand. Mabey a lock of her hair? I don't know... I'll figure it out. Anyway, thanks again and check back in anytime. :)

great start! like the way you've laid out the composition, with notes & all -- very well planned and nice setting of the mood. i'm doing a war piece too ("journey into war"), but mine's focusing on vietnam, circa 1969.
best of luck to you in the challenge, and in military life in general! if you're fiancee heads off to iraq, my best thoughts & support go with him...

Hey Jevin. Thanks, for checking out my peice. I saw yours earlier, but haven't had the chance yet today to tell you how great I think it's goting. You've really got some talent. I'm not the best digital painter, but I think I'm at a level now where I can try and run with you good artists. Hopefully I can pull it off with this peice. I'm definitely going to have to work hard to make it look good. Good luck to you too. See ya. By the end of the day i'll be sure to post my comments on your work.
