I'm doing a bit of editing on an avi file in after effects (part of a bigger job) but its giving me this error everytime I try to listen to the audio (by pressing ctrl) whilst working in the comp window:

After Effects error: audio output problem. Undefined external error. (10::66)

The only explanation I can think of is that the avi file is NTSC (29.97fps) and my composition is PAL, because I need to convert it. Could that be the case?

The audio in the avi file is (48.000khz/16bit/stereo).

Any help or explanations would be gratefully received!

I'm using After Effects 6.5 standard on a HP Workstation xw6200 with 4g Ram and dual intel xeon 3.4ghz processors.

Thanks

I don't know how many times I have had the exact same problem. It might be the PAL/NTSC conversion. Or it might be that your computer doesn't have the necessary codec to handle that file.

The easiest solution would be to rip the audio out using a non-linear editor (FinalCut)or a conversion program like Discreet Cleaner, Squeeze or WINMPG etc.. Then apply the audio to your timeline as a separate piece. Make sure to turn the audio off on the original layer/video or you will have the same error.

Hope this helps.
