Here is the first idea for the place...
I will try to do not make a remake of the Lord of the Rings..
I'm not sure to keep the castle. One thing I'm sure about, you should find the 3 creatures in the first plan of this background.

I will certainly create the 3 creatures now.

He keep the focus on him, when we should look at the landscape or the girl.

It's really coming along nicely. The details on the sand girl are great. I'm not sure I'd ask her out on a date though.
Just one thing confused me a bit. The reflection on the pond to the left looks like an opening to another part of the landscape. If you bring down the opacity of it a bit it should solve the problem.

A new version with some lighting effects, more details and the first dust for the sand...
I think to bring more life with birds or flying creatures.
I like the idea that it can not be really possible to know if the light is a signal for a SOS or the point were an ennemy , a terrible creature, live...

really strong piece here. love all that rough grit.
one crit is that the saturation difference between midground and bg is kinda sudden. splits the image too much. maybe a more natural transition. i'm having a bit of trouble telling what is rock and what is water, but i don't think that's all bad. it adds to the mysteriousness of the landscape.
looking forward to more eye candy,
~B

Very cool detailing on the pond! I think having the mid section a bit darker would help bring your eye to their final destination though- as it is now, the eye is drawn to the midsection, looking at the details, the brightness and so on, when you really want the focus to be that the 'people' are going to the city.....the actual story.

05-08-2006, 04:53 PM
This is looking really amazing. I was waiting to see the characters added all into the background and here it is: Very nice! I love the detailing in the background, especially that midsection. I'm having a little trouble with the scale of things... At first glace, it looks like the characters are huge compared to the mountains in the mid-section... then I realize that they're looking over it from a cliff or ridge. That border between their ridge and the mid-ground isn't clear at first... perhaps you could darken the foreground a tad or in some other way make the separation between the two more obvious?
Also, you talked about adding more life, like birds...? What about some sort of quadruped, like an alien rhinoceros or something like that, in the midsection, to help the scale read? Maybe a small herd of them... All of your creature designs have been really great so far, what's one more design? :D Anyhow, just an idea... You originally had that walking bug-thing back there anyhow.
One last little detail: The creature on the left, turned towards us? His/her one loose strand of hair is on a tangent with that rock...
Anyhow, great work, and especially wonderful environment design!

the textures are really nicely detailed and the figures are original AND interesting :)
i think that a little more blue in the shadows might help with the depth rather to much dust/saturation...
the foreground and back ground has some blue but the middle ground is lacking colour variation...

Really great detail and great epic scene and as Cyberone said, it's better to add more color to this piece.
Good luck to you!

One of my last steps.
I'm not sure, maybe it is the last one.
I need to test lighting effect. I will make an update just after with some effects.
I hope your comments will help.

I'm not sure. I'm happy of the lights but maybe they should be on the horizon..
I'll try this tomorrow.

Hi Riddick, it's looking great.
The light seems to be coming from the centre of the pic, maybe if you made the God Ray on the right a bit stronger and possibly bring them closer to the centre. I think you do need them as when I was looking at your previous updates I was a bit confused as to where the light was coming from. And besides with them in you'll become a member of the God Rays club. :)

EdP-Art<I want to be a God Rays member!!!
LOL
Well, in fact as you could see on the new update to come(in few minutes) I decided to change the god rays for something more soft, to have a sensation of a sweet morning.
By the way it preserv the impact of the central light of the Castle.
Mythmaker<Many thanks!
The final is coming!
I have made my best on this painting, and a lot of effort to do not make too much thing and lost the viewers.
beelow<Thank you Beelow!

Here is the final!
I never made any paintings like this before!
It is my more huge effort!
I hope the journey of this three Sand girls will touch you.
They are unusual, but fragile, elegant and I found them sensible.
There is a waterfall at the Castle...

I like the fact that you introduced some more color variations in this painting. It seems that the subtle green and red you have in here added more depth. I would try to move some of those cool greens in the shaded area, and see how that works, I am guessing it will Unify the image alot more! Worth a try! Image is superb though!

I was going to say this reminded me of the movie Pitch Black! Then you titled it Riddick! Is there a connection?
I think this will definatly win an award! Congradulations, I am a fan!

Vincent<Merci beaucoup!!
Mason Roberts<Waw! I did not notice this! Yep it is true the background looks a little like of the Riddick planet.
But my references were inspired by the canyon and the other géological architectures.
And my imagination for a lot of the part.

Congratulations on finishing. It's really a bizarre and wonderful environment you've created, and I love the atmosphere and the details. Way to go! :)
(And thanks for posting the close-ups. I like seeing the contrast in textures between the characters and the environment.)

Many thanks Tredistudio!!
For more precision, the choice to change the colors of some elements like the sand or the sky was to create a true new world.
They are not just, creatures from the past or the future on our planet, but 3 women in an other place.
