hey there folks,

im in a rut with Cinema 4d right now, as i inhereted it from my big bro who doesn't need it. As far as the both of us know, the manual is gone. And so i am mostly self taught or got a great tut. on the internet. My rut involves modelling( For now) i keep using techniques that are good for structure and machines, what i want to do for example is make a broch, with flowers and jewelry on it. i dont know how to start and i dont like using bump maps so much.

Any help would help me take another step in CG.

Many thanks in advance

The manual is almost always included on a CD in PDF format. Do you have the CDs?

If you are missing the manuals, and the discs that contained them, you can download them all here:

http://maxon.net/pages/download/download_documentation_e.html

If you desire hard copies of the manuals, they can be purchased from Maxon for $35. That price gets you one HUGE manual on the core program another $35 will buy you an equally large manual for all the modules (except Body Paint).

As all HDD crash soomer or later, it might be a good idea to contact Maxon to get new CDs. Knowing them, these won't be very expensive, and you also get lots of goodies on them.

True, but there is nothing against backing up the d/l manuals. The goodies are pretty good, but if I had the choice between paying for the disc or paying for a hard copy of the manual, I would choose the hard copy. If $$$ were no object, I'd buy both.

Slightly OT, I really wish that Maxon would sell the materials that they inclue with the Engineering Bundle separately, rather than requiring one to buy the entire Bundle. *sigh*

why don't you just print the pdf?

maybe because they are some 100pages long?

Satchking may I ask why you don't like using bumpmaps so much?

Sorry, I was not critisizing printed manuals. When I read (quote) "i have had Cinema 4d 9.1 on my computer for so long so my bro kinda misplaced that very expensive cd." I just thought it might be a good idea to get a new one from Maxon.

Yes, I have copied the cd's to an external hdd, but it looks like he hasn't got anything but that installed copy. And that's a risk.
BTW: don't forget to copy your serials! without them you're in trouble.

i like using bump for the most minute of detail, even though displacement takes more memory, i am not annoyed by the flat edges of the model with that texture.
i also want to be able to make a piece of jewlry with shapes on the metal. i saw a perfect example on a forum, but i cant remember when or where.

yeah i think 100pg worth of ink would be just a little more costly than buying the manual..hehe..

many thanks
