This is a very small concept sketch that I started with. This is the full size...just playing with an idea.
When I read the challenge title "The Journey Begins," something made me think of the after life as the beginning of a journey.

At first I was thinking of doing the person "flying" away with wings or floating up to the heavens as a spirit, but reconsidered it and changed it to a more traditional ascending of the stairs.
In the foreground are the people hovering over the dead body.

Updated the foreground characters--I made them doctors to depict the death of the character better.

Started with a coloring test. Its made me rethink what I am going to do for this piece. Im not thrilled with the direction it is currently going...I need to tweak it a lot.

Playing with a different perspective and slightly changed idea. I didnt like the direction the previous piece was going in. I havent sketched out the right side yet, but it will basically be the "hell" side of it.
The idea is that choice does not end when the "journey begins"...or something along those lines. :)
