View Full Version : Jagged Fluid
kuronekogrrl 04-13-2006, 03:06 AM Hello! I can't seem to smooth out these jagged ripples in my fluid particles, does anyone know how? I've tried changing the fluid's compressability, the voxels, the particle blob's blending and anything else i can think of but it's still really jagged, especially on the white hot spots. When i render out the animation the edge of the fluid's jagged-ness and hot spots flicker like crazy as the fluid expands into a pool. If anyone could help that would be great!

hey, do you think you can post your fluid settings from the FLuid Shader? And I would look at the render settings, I have never seen that happen on my fluids...

Okay here is my fluid shader for my particle cloud. All the render settings are default except for the anit-aliasing at 1 and 2. Hope this can help you help me!

Okay, I would first try turning off that ambient...although I have never had an issue like this. Do you think it is a graphics card issue....

okay i'm going to update the driver on my Nvidia Quadro and see if that helps. Then i'll turn the ambeint down. Thanks!

rendered images have nothing to do with graphic card

I Haven't fooled around with XSI's fluid much but just out of curiosity have you tried making the 'blob' higer res? By that screen shot it looks to me like the blob is just too low-res.
Just click the + key on your numpad a few times when you have the blob selected and maybe that will smooth out the results a bit.

the + key is ineffective for fluid blobs. The lower the voxel size the more detailed the blobs are....you may have to check to see if you have your voxel maximum high enough, or see if you have anything turned off in your render settings. I have my voxel max at 50,000,000. The default for the fluid emitter...
are you using shadow maps or anything like that? I am going to try and replicate this problem

OKay, I think I found the problem...your Max Voxel count is too low for the voxel size. Increasing the Max. Voxel count should allay the problem.
Just remember that it will increase render times...

Okay i have tried that and this is my result. I changed the max voxels, saved, reloaded and it dosen't seem to make much of a difference. I even did a new fluid particle with the same Ptype just in case my original ooze had a setting in it that i changed and is causing the problem, hence the different coloured rendered ooze. Who thought fluid particles could be this hard? HaloAnimator could you post your render of the fluid and a shot of your fluid shader? I recently upgraded to 5.1, i wonder if that is the problem...
