Impressive!

work of this style reminds me of the golden days of adventure games on the PC about 10 years ago (Space Quest, King's Quest, Monkey Island).

Well done.

THis is excellent work! nice job.. 1 suggestion.. if you want him to look more "mad" try splashing some green light on the left underside of his face. Keep it up.

Lushness!!!! :bounce:

I really love it as I do all your work, sormann! Great illustrative, painted quality and style to the characters.

Is this part of or prequel to an animation in the works?

Ah, yes, I remember this one very well. Extremely good work, but my question now is if thats a "factory" render or has it undergone heavy or light post-work?

uhhhh.... really great image. Iīd like to see wireframed shots, and maybe a deeper explanation of the making-off :D

thanks for all your replies!
I used maya to render this.
I did no overpainting or so ,what I did is rendering this in two
steps.
First I rendered the Reactor back and used that Image as
an Image plane for the rendering of the Constructor on the robot.
I didnt use a toon shader ,Its all standard maya shaders.
What I did was to use a sampler info node on the ambient chanel on a few shaders for a stronger Back light effect, to get a better contrast to the background.

Thats the wire of the reactor room background rendering:

i m pretty sure i see how u mean by using a sampler on the ambiant u hooked up a graidant to it so the ambiant would be strongest facing away from the camera , is this correct?

Yes
Ist a good way to get a stronger backlight effect.

Thanks guys for your kind repies!
downup: I have an athlon 1800+ and 250Mb ram.
for Scenes like that I always work in 2 or 3 steps :
1 the Background anim then the acting characters and
then effeks like steam or so...
I have a first test compositing of the back and the layer with the
animation of the robot .
Its not finished, I am not happy with the timing ,and the steam and other effects are missing but anyway:

Whoa! That was marvellous! I love the whole thing! Is that button used for "waking" the robot or something like that? The only crit is that he could've used some preperation before quickly walking off, if he were to unfold in some way or stand up a bit slowly, you'd probably create much more expectation in his stride. Fantastic all the same!

this is some very good work! Keep it up, and I hope to see it animated.

sormann3d
12-31-2002, 05:07 PM
hmm
the basic idea was to let the constructor simply keep on walking
but from a thertain point in time the robot walks for him ,converting his moves like mocap.
The button is an activation button for the robot and in the final version there will be much steam and flashin red light to indicate his activation.
But anyway to be honest I am not really sure about tis concept anymore myselfe because of the timing and the mass of the robot he has to move....and from the sorytelling point of view it simply might be to fast...I ll keep on testing...

In the earlier version of the animation I think the camera angle was higher? It was really cool.. you could see the guys arms move the levers and his weight appeared to be thrown around more. Hope you use that walk cycle in the final animation.

Still kick ass.

What can I say but excellent work indeed... but if I read correctly this was supposed to be a "mad" scientist??? He kind of looks too fuzzily funny looking to be "mad." He kind of reminds me of a kind old man that lived next door to me. He'd let me mow his lawn for an incredible amount of money, and afterwards he'd give me a nice ice tea and talk to me about his wife that passed away... <sighs> Hmmm... come to think of it... never went into his house. You never know... maybe he WAS a mad scientist?:surprised

Nice work. A little more size on the beautiful work and a bit more craziness on the mad professor and it will be even better than it already is. I'll check your site now. Really fine work.

Great stuff. :scream:

As I had mentioned also at Inside.
Great job with the slight exception of what I mentioned at Inside CG, but maybe it is just the angle or other movements.:applause:
