Note: Moderators, I wasn't sure where to put this, and could not find a place to ask where to post this, so please move it if it is not appropriate for this section.

Fylmz.com, the first truly democratic films festival is now open and accepting entries into our short films competition and feature length competition. Rather than take up space here, I invite you to check out the competition information here:

Fylmz.com short films competition (http://www.fylmz.com/competition.php)

And for more information on fylmz.com in general, please visit:

FYLMZ.COM (http://www.fylmz.com/)

If you have specific questions that are not answered on our site, feel free to contact us via the site, or you can PM me here on CG talk.

Oh, and in case you don't have the energy to read all the stuff in the link now -
The short films winner receives $3,500 USD and the feature length winner receives $100,000 USD. These are pretty big prizes for a film festival. Most other festival's prizes are rather small and don't guarantee distribution.

Thanks

over 300USD to enter a festival with a shortfilm? You must be kidding!

This sounds more like an electoral raffle than a film festival. I don't think I trust the internet going public to fairly jury a competition with a $300 entry fee. Then again what do they care?

But wait! There's More! Your $300 dollar entry fee doesn't even guarantee anybody will see your film! Only 60 Films will actually be shown. So... you're paying $310-360 to get the chance to show your poster in the hope that people might want to see your film? Great film? Bad poster? No show for you.

This is pretty rediculous, make that borderline scammy. For that expensive of an entry fee, I would expect people to actually review my film before making selections.

Edit: The $300 isn't for the short film category, it's for the feature. The Short film category is in the reasonable $30-35 range.

The higher entry fee is for feature length films in which there is a $100,000 USD prize plus guaranteed distribution.

The short films entry is $35 with a $3,500 prize USD, and unlike the feature length competition, the short films are shown in their entirety online. That's all spelled out pretty clearly on the page I linked to, but I do admit it is a lot of text to take in.

Also, please note that it is not just the poster that is shown on the feature length films. It is also the trailer, synopsis, cast & crew, etc. We are allowing filmmakers to add a link in their profiles that will take people to a site with more info on their movie if they like. Then in the final round, the movies are viewed and rated by judges chosen from fylmz.com membership based on their activity on the site and whether they have compatible (suitable) home theater setup. (some judges will receive the films via play once DVD, some via satellite narrowcast) I think the initial rating of the trailers for feature length entries is completely fair. You are rating your interest in the movie based on its marketing materials. How is this different than what Hollywood offers to the public? How do you decide what movies to go see in the theater? By judging their marketing materials.

If you have the time, please read a little more about what fylmz is about because you're off base quite a bit. We exist because of the need for independant film projects to actually have a chance to make it. Other film festivals are very difficult to get a showing in at all, and the films that are hand picked to be shown are chosen by the filming elite - it's like a tight little circle of friends that is hard to get into. That's where we are different.

The 300 entry fee is for feature length films. Short film entries are around $35 depending on whether you are a student or not.

sorry to bump this old thread - but thought it might be of interest to some here. We have been receiving a lot of entries and have had very good feedback on the site in general. We are getting close to the deadline for short film entries and I would like to offer free entry codes to anyone here on CG talk. Just PM me if you want it. This would give you absolutely free submission of your short film which will be shown in its full length and voted on by fylmz.com members.

Please keep in mind I am a long time member of CGTalk and would not risk my status here on anything that is not legit. (I changed my screen name last summer - prior to that i was 3DG) I mostly stick to the Cinema4D forum as that is the software I use.

(I don't want to post the code all willie-nillie for the public's consumption so just PM me and i'll reply with it.) :)

Thanks

Gary Ingle

Thanks to everyone who has replied and asked for the promotional code. I look forward to seeing your short films!

The short film competition begins September 1, so there's still time to squeeze some more in. (and actually you can still submit after that - but it's in your best interest to have it submitted on the opening day of competition)

Best of luck to everyone!
