Hey guys. Here's something I wipped up a while back as a quick 'proof of concept' for an idea I had running. It's just a Day-for-Night matte painting using a photographed castle shot in daylight (people from mattepainting.org may remember it) and composited into a scene that I've been imagining.
Some people may say this should be in the 2D gallery and not in Matte painting but I don't see it this way.
This is the type of matte I'd create for this kind of sequence (the guys fighting over a 'epic' structure) with a bit of tweaking for motion ofcourse.

Please note:
I understand that their are some matte errors on the castle which HAVE been removed but that version of the matte is too large to post here. But if you want you can dload it here:

It is a 1.3meg image.
Also, the photographed castle is only the structure on the right, the rest is work done simply using a Wacom tablet.
I know this is nothing spectacular but I thought I'd share it, for C&C if anything.
