Could someone please tell me how they go about getting there image planes to be transparent or semi transparent.....

the best way to do this is just use polygon planes and put a lambert shader on them and map your reference to your color channel. then you can adjust the transparency of the lambert shader how you want. also its a good idea to put your planes in layers that way you can set them to reference.

Change alfa-gain to something less than 1...and more than 0
