I was wondering if you could network render with Maya 4.5 unlimited? I understand with Mental Ray you cannot unless you go with the stand alone version. But the Free 1.5 Mental Ray for Maya does not allow for Network rendering I am told,is this true?
Does GI Joe allow for network rendering? Or any other Maya renderers? Other than Renderman, too expensive for me. Thanks for a Guidance>>>>:) :)

What, wait a second.I think you can network render with Mental Ray 1.5 and Maya. Just cannot remember where I heard this. But it was someone in the know. Anyone out there know for sure? Other than Smedge,is there a solution? Thanks.

Network rendering with mental rayŽ
Parallel network rendering

What is it?

Parallel network rendering allows you to distribute the rendering of each frame in your scene across multiple machines on your network. This requires standalone mental ray rendering licenses and can be invoked while working within Maya (in the Render View) and also from the command line with Maya or the mental ray 3.1 standalone renderer.

Terminology

In the rest of this document, client refers to the machine that is invoking the parallel network render request interactively, via batch or command line, and server refers to an individual machine with mental ray standalone on the network that performs part of a parallel network render and sends the information back to the client.

Any machine with mental ray standalone can be a client, a server or both at the same time.

You can also mix any combination of IRIX, Linux, and Windows machines as clients and servers.

What do I need?

If you would like to render from within Maya or batch render with Maya, you will need to install mental ray for Maya on all client machines and mental ray 3.1 standalone on all server machines.

If you would like to render from the command line using the mental ray 3.1 standalone renderer, you need to install mental ray 3.1 on all client and server machines.
