View Full Version : What graphic card do you use for Maya?
rsalonen 03-08-2002, 01:11 AM I was just wondering what kind of graphics card you guys are using for maya. I've seen that allot of people have problems with the radeon cards, and I also checked out A|Ws qualified hardware section, and it seems all cards seems to have some kind of problem.
So what card are you using and have you experienced any problems with it?
I'm going to buy a new computer within a months, so I need to know what graphic card to buy.
I know this question could be in the technial and hardware forum, but I'm only intrested in what you maya users are using, and also that forum isn't very much visited.

Running an ELSA Gloria 3 here (with Quadro2Pro chip). Close cousin to the DCC mentioned by Sheep. Either will treat you right.

SGI VR3 Quadro 64mb. It's the one used in SGI's 230/330 Visual Workstations. I've been running it under both Win2k and Linux, and it's still a smoking card. I use a Fire GL 4 also. That thing is incredible, but the new Wildcat III 6210's we're getting in should be unbeatable. :D

I am using Oxygen VX1 on one of my computers. It still works fine. Geforce2 GTS on another computer, but i already restructured it into Quadro2 pro, much more powerful than VX1. However, VX1 has a better color display.

From your post it looks like the Quadro card is good. If we compare it to a card like Geforce3, what is the difference. I know nothing about these special cards.
And about how much does a Quadro card cost?
Is the Quadro card good for playing games too? I mean do you get a decent FPS?
Lol Krugar ;)
My comp I'm using now is going like a 133 (it is a PIII 450), so I might look into that computer, I'm sure it's faster than this junk.
Whoha, is Civilisation 1 already out, geez, they are releasing the games to fast nowadays.

I use a Oxygen GVX1 32MB at home on a dual PIII 933 with a 1152MB of RAM. At school we use intergraphs with the older Wildcat 4110's. I haven't experienced any problems with the Wildcat or the Oxygen. Some of my buddies use the ATI Fire GL2 64MB and the Quadro 2 MXR with dual monitor support and they both like their cards as well.

I'm using a dual PIII 866, 786 MB. (Kingston Memory) sdram ecc PC133 and ATI Fire GL1 (32 MB.) graphics card for Maya v.4.0. Haven't had too much problem until I upgraded from NT to W2K. I've noticed the screen refresh rates from my graphics card isn't as fast in Maya. Nevertheless, I get work done with this current set-up.
You should wait and look into the Elsa Quadro 4 (64/ 128 MB.). Since these cards rock based on their specs in nVidia site. But be prepared to pay a pretty penny for em. Especially, in its first release.
