HA!! Very nice animation & very entertaining. Great job. My only comment is having the dancing guy and the sneaking guy so close together when they come on screen is a bit distracting. My eye keeps fliping back & forth between the two. Maybe if you wait just a bit longer (15-20 frames or so) to bring the dancing guy on after the sneak guy it would solve it. They are both so nicely animated that you really want to give each of them their full attention. Great work. :)

I have to say nice work. You have some very fluid movement, but I agree that you need to add to the length.

Thanks everybody!

I know it's short, but if I added anything else, you guys would probably say, "yeah, take that one out." As I create more work, I'll definitely add it, but the only comparable work I have right now is orbit views of the same cycles... don't know if it's necessary to show those.

I could include the orbits, as well as some 2D work, but I can't think of a fluid way to integrate them (mainly the 2D pencil tests).

The sneak and dance walks are so close together just for time purposes, but, as said, it's too short. I think I've stared at these cycles for so long now I'm not distracted by them being close.

My website is http://www.patconnole.com (http://www.patconnole.com/) , if there's anything there I should add to the reel, let me know!

Thanks for the feedback, everyone.

Hi Pat

Nice animation reel.

My favourite part was the third character.

I felt that the first character was a bit floaty, but I could be wrong

Mike

Thanks, Michael -

Yeah, the first guy is floaty, I agree. Can't figure out what it is, but there's no way I'm going back to that one... time to move on.

You've got a great reel, yourself. I love the bird landing on the balloon, and the egg sneaking in the teapot.

Thanks for visiting my website, but that is not my reel. It's my brother's, thanks anyway :D

one of the coolest animation reels i've seen in a while. i like it short, makes me hungry for more. don't really know how ur gonna integrate other stuff of a different rendering style to that reel though, so lip synch acting stuff might stand out of place. maybe if u still wanna extend it this piece could serve as a sort of intro. again, good stuff mate. lookin forward to some more

Love the animation, great idea. I agree if that's your entire reel then it may need some extra stuff, lip sync, etc. But that's a really strong peice. I went through your website, you've got some awesome stuff. I Look forward to seeing your future projects.

Good job. Not that it is simple, but it is lacking stuff. You should add more movement within a different scene and such.

Nice work though.

Cool animation and idea, simple but very expressive!
Since your focus is obviously on animation rather than anything else, it's ok to keep
it in that fashion. but nevertheless, it's too short imo. you need to add some more stuff.

keep it on!

i just finished a project animating 3d sillhoettes myself, for a paying job, i had never tried it before but its really fun. you can cut a lot of corners and just have fun animating, and of course you have to rig a bit differently.. anyways yours is way more fun than mine, but i was art directed to make it realistic and you gotta make the client happy.. i managed to sneak in as much squash and stretch as i could, it was impossible to resist :)

Very very nice reel! Your motion is so fluid. It's amazing how much character you put in those silhouettes. Great work! Keep it up.

I see what people are saying about the length of the reel, but I think 30 sec of great animation (like ur reel now) is better then 2min of so-so stuff. So don't just put more stuff your not really happy with, just to make it longer. If you really want to make it longer, I would not include different views of the animation you have already, i would maybe add those drawings you talked about. But personally, I really like it the way it is now! I also really like your style and that it is consistant through out the whole piece. I think recruiters will love it! Good luck

Thanks everybody, my head is getting so big it's about to explode!

Thanks Seemoo, you've got an amazing reel yourself, I'm totally jealous. I think my style of animation is more the result of not knowing what to do, rather than intentionally doing it a certain way.... it's why I'm doing more extreme stuff instead of anything delicate (acting, emotion, small interactions). In the throw, for example, after he releases the plunger to spin it in the air, I didn't know how to get him into the next pose of balancing on his back foot, so I did that crazy 'wip' thing with his spine/neck/head, and it worked alright once I smoothed it out.... so when all is said and done, I'm happy with how it looks, but still don't feel like I was in complete control. I'm sure it'll get better with time.....

If you don't mind me asking, what was your method for the hand/shoulder interaction in your first clip? Are there any weird constraints going on, or is it frame by framed (or both)? Perhaps you've already answered this in your posts..... lemme check. ;)
