What you done is unique 'couse very often the reference/skechetes are much more climatic and moody than renders espaciali test renders.

But your renders are great. And modeling skils are even better.

Good work. I don't mind that you aren't making her look particularly "anime"-ish, but she's supposed to be like a 14 or 15 year old girl. The model you're making looks much more womanly: big hips, big posterior, thick thighs, older looking face, and just a grown up looking proportion of her head to her body (such as it is).

On the wing though looks as though from like the middle to the end that the feathers come out or get longer. In the drawing I mean. Yours looks great with the feathers, but I think could use some filling out,. Right now they look kind of umm... weak for lack of a better word. She doesn't look as angelic or that she could actually take flight, ya know?

I think that its more interesting to create a cyborg that looks human, that's why she looks like a woman and not match to the original picture.

Now some crit:
- hair covers all these cute details inside her head, but that's unavoidable ;)
- feathers have dark fringes, little modification of alpha should help
- feathers need some variation, now they look all alike, that's bit disturbing

I'm a huge Alita fan and pretty much bout the only crit I can find at all is the bottom feathers bother me... aside from the feathers looking a bit dark around the edges with the alpha mapping, the bottom row of feathers all seem to bend back in towards the body, when they should be aiming more out...
I'm at work so I can't circle the part in the image to make it clearer to what I mean... but the flow of the feathers is like

The top half look good, just the rotation of the feathers on the bottom row look off...:shrug:

I think it's much too dark, all tese details get lost in shadows, and her face need some extra lightning to pop-up

The dump is bit too uniform and blurry (maybe that's due to compression), and again details of hands, arms are getting lost...

The sky is very nice, moody ;)

I suggest some strong, colored lightsource from left/right side (whichever you like) + some local sources, to lit the face for example.

I think it needs more dramatic composition, maybe bit different camera angle ( slightly more front, less side view)

Are you planning any textures on her?

And of course, bounceys, beers, and smiles... great work

I`m a huge fun of Alita too, and i love your model.
My advice would be to give your personal touch to her...leaving apart the composition of that cover, it`s not worth to replicate it...try a different camera angle, experiment with lights, you made a lot of interesting mechanism...try to make them in highlight!

I totally agree with Azazel, the lighting is far from the 2 first pictures and hide details and expression of the model.

You should make a closer view of the model, like the original sketch of Kishiro.

But it's quite already fantastic...

I just commented based on the concept art that was provided at the start of the thread. Based on that, i beliveve that the character has been attribituted with a larger butt. As MCronin said, she looks more womanly, whereas the concept art shows a more girly body.

Nevertheless, the image is great, that is the only detail that strikes to me as wrong, or better yet not as aesthetic.

The only thing in my opinion that i would change a bit would be the lighting. Some of the character seems to fade in with the background a bit. I think that if you would make her brighter it would make a larger impact on how impressive and awe inspiring she is.

The picture that i have attached is an example of what im talking about. The person in the middle draws our attention because he has a higher contrast with the rest of the image and gives us a sense that he was a very important person that people looked up to.

You dont have to take my advice if you dont wont to because obviously you are a great artist. :thumbsup:

I'm back from exams :p so here is an up. The head is bigger, the face looks younger and more manga-styled. The sky is different, and the character is more lit.
Now about the plucks: each one is a low poly sphere with planar mapping. The material is realy basic with opacity/difuse/bump/specular and filter map for the whole wing.
I made the plucks one by one duplicated & scaled manualy.

Damn, why haven´t I seen that before? My favourite manga heroine goes 3d!!!
I prefer the Anime look though, but it´s Ok when you make her look more realistic as your artistic interpretaion of the original-
but I wouldn´t take away that innocent look on Gallys/Alitas face-that´s one of her main characteristic.The lighting needs additional work, it´s still too flat-
the new feathers are much better-I am sure after some fixes here and there and that thing will turn out as a great piece!!!

Very nice work i must say :) I always loved that anime, that peice of artwork translated into 3d very well. I would say the only thing i would critique is the sky it looks alil simple but overall i would say thats not important cause the modelling and figure really overtakes that!!!!

Don't know if you know this already but the guy who drew the original Battle Angel Alita has also done a few 3D works of his own.
