Hi

I like to render out stills CG animtion intended for both sdTV and Computer viewing, the default NTSC out of maya has an pixel aspect ratio of 0.9, if I were to render out once should I use PAR 0.9 or 1? I persume I could either squize or strech this in a video editor.

I figure if I render out images of PAR 1.0 and squeez down to 0.9 I would loss less information then strech it up, but I have no experience in this.

square pixel resolutions:

NTSC:
720x540/546 (depending if it is for d1 or dvd/dv)
856 X 480 (anamorphic widescreen dv/dvd)

PAL
768x576
1024x576 (anamorphic widescreen dv/dvd)

I intended to render out to view on dvd, also I check vegas5 property presets, it lists NTSC square as 640 x 480 looks rather strange, is this for scaling up? Are dvds formats progressive, should I bother with fields?

640x480 is square, but you really want to render out so you are squeezing the file down instead of up. It just results in higher quality on final output. PAL is squeezed in the opposite direction of ntsc.

So
720 > 720
540 > 480
instead of
640 > 720
480 > 480

Go 24fps all the way, no fields (less rendering, less frames, less hassle). All non progressive dvd players have built in pullup/pulldown for 24fps>29.97 on the fly conversion. Most movies from the theater transfered to dvd are progressive 24fps.
