View Full Version : hold weights on uselected?
pongstah 04-11-2006, 02:46 AM I know there's a Hold Weights on Selected option in the Paint Skin Weights Tool, but does an option like... Hold Weights on UNSELECTED exist? I want to hold the weights on all the joints except for the joint i'm editing but it takes too long if i do it one by one. thanks

Go to highend3d and download a thrid party script for skinning. The have additonal features over the standard maya interface for painting weights that makes things rolll much more smoothly - including hold unselected :)

You have to have a few joints whose weights are not locked, else the joint you're editing won't have any place to get it's skin weights from, or no place to throw it's skin weights to when you decrease skin weights on the joint. It will have no way to normalize skin weights if all but your edited joint's hold weights options are turned on.
The best way to be acurate is to use the component editor and weight the model numerically. That way you'll be able to see what values exist for your skinned object. Of course it's best to do this on your lowest res, non-smoothed object (if your using poly).
