Just wondering has anyone here seen the Orange DVD. I'm waiting for mine, and itching to know what the film is like and what the special features (escpecially) are.

The DVD hasn't been released/finished yet. But here is a progress report by the Orange team.

Looks like they should be finishing up here right shortly.

Thanks for responding dreamsgate. I'm a little dissapointed cos when I ordered it last wednesday :), my account indicated it had been "shipped" the next day. More waiting then - it's probably worth it. I'm particularly interested in character animation workflow.

I ordered mine months ago bak when it first opened up for pre-order ;) . I'm pretty disapointed myself, as the release date was "early April" and then it would open up for download "early May". If they wait too long to release it, I hope they compensate for it by releasing it for download about a month later, otherwise, the DVD premiere would be pointless.

The online release will be awhile after the DVD release (two weeks?), so the DVD purchasers will still get to do their own preview.

The delay is due to the schedule being moved back a month on the actual movie production.

See the Orange Blog for the latest news on when the DVD release will happen (soon but a few last minute issues have popped up).

I'm actually looking forward to the DVD regardless of when the download is availabe - I don't see myself downloading 9+ gigs (is that right?) of content. Besides apart from using Blender it's about time I supported it real terms. Even if it's just 35 euros, it's a start :).

The Orange Project looks terrific and will surely boost the popularity of Blender when it's released. At this point i believe this movie project is more important then just another kick-ass feature to change the bad attitude of many artists against Blender. I'm looking forward to the release and wish everybody involved in this project good luck !

Btw, i got myself a new wallpaper yesterday : http://orange.blender.org/wp-content/themes/orange/images/blog/proogs1s2.jpg (http://orange.blender.org/wp-content/themes/orange/images/blog/proogs1s2.jpg)

I think the problem with Blenders acceptance in the wider cg community has a lot more to do with its deployment at studio level rather than individual artist choice. There are many pro artists who do use Blender, but just don't say so.

the internet version will be available after the DVD has been shipped. So give it awhile yet. But it will be available for all to see.

for those that don't keep up-to-date using Orange's own website, here's a reminder of what's going on:

http://orange.blender.org/blog/masters-ready-reproduction-started

The reproduction is already started and should be ready by the end of this week / beginning of next week.

Brian,

that is over a month old - those who ordered DVDs they generally arrived before it was released on the web.
