I have modeled a city in Cinema 4D, and now I want to add a shield rising up to cover the city. Here is the link to a short reference video showing what im talking about. You can see the shield going up.

Shield reference video (http://video.tinypic.com/player.php?v=v4wcol)

I have a fairly basic understanding of AE, and I think this effect will have to be done in AE, because ive tried it in C4D, and I wasnt able to acheive the same effect. (unless im missing something, or doing it wrong)

This is the first time ive attempted to create something like this, so any idea/s or suggestions would be helpful. Or, if someone might think its possible to do this in 3D (Cinema 4D), then im open to ideas.

Im using AE 6 Pro (PC)

Thanks

A simple gradient to create the edge, then deformed with displacments and further modified with Fractal noise. Pretty simple, both in 3D and AE.
