I planned to do something Caribbean/Monkey Island like... about 60 % of the rocks is (are ?
O_o) handpainted, the rest is "Matte Painting" like ;) The city is just sketched in 5 minutes :p. It is of course W.I.P

Thanks for your comments :D

Hey nice idea the tall pillar in the middle, very mysterious. Might be fun to try and add more variation to the trees. That way you might create some interesting texture effects.

Right now I'm working on the tall rock (okay, right now i dont have time :/ ), but when I'm finished I want to add some variation to the vegetation :) I hope I will create some interesting Texture effects ;)

I cancelled all my other projects for now. My Grandmother died 4 days ago, and today I was at her funeral. It was the saddest day in my life. I drew a picture, and I'm going to finish it before i continue with my other projects.

I dont want to enforce commiseration, I just want you to know what is behind this picture/WIP :\

Edit : Explaining : That on the right doesnt need explanation i hope. The black people are the mourning relatives. And on the left is her, in her chair watching us. The whole time I had the feeling she was watching us...

Thank you, dude. My parents are still crushed, and I also think that she finally found her peace in heaven :) . But it is still very sad :(

But thanks for your encouragement, it means a lot for me :)

(maybe I ove-react a bit, 'cause it's the first case of death in my familiy I experienced, so please dont think I just want to enforce replies to this thread, thanks :-) )

only reference used for the ear. I hope I'm improving and showing talent... I want to study CG-3d-animating-stuff, so it would be cool if you could say "no wai!" or (hopefully ) "yeah, if you practice you can do it" :)

That's the great thing - if you practice, you CAN do it. Just make sure you're studying the right things and not making a habit of mistakes - but that is what you are here for, right? :)

I'm sorry to hear about your Grandmother. *hugs*

Hey Smiagol,

two tips from looking at your thread:
- try using bigger brushes with lower opacity - that way it's easier to blend and it makes the whole look less sloppy;
- try experimenting with less saturated colours. Right now your images look a bit unnatural because the colours are too bright.

I hope you'll get into the habit of posting more regularly;)!

Thanks for the critique :)
I experimented with less saturation a lot, but then the images looked kind of dull and boring :\ Dont know, I think I have to get the right mix...
About the Big Brush : I kind of want the images to look a bit "sketchy" , cause if you use big brushes, there's no texture left, everything smooth and clean... boring in my opinion

Yeah you know, school, family, girlfriend, the last 4 months really sucked ^^ Now I hope I can paint more regularly ,as i said ;)

I tried a bit with desaturation... well not quite turned out how it was supposed to... but take a look :)
