I lofted a dual spline surface, used smooth shift to get thickness. So far, so good. the problem is I need to know how to create another surface on the back side. hopefully the image is clear enough. I'm Trying to creat objects that appear to have thickness. In an ideal world, I would beable to loft a surface with front and back normals but with no thickness and simply smooth shift out to what I wanted. Of course I am sure that I'm approaching this all wrong.

Amazing what an hour away from the computer does for clear thinking...Simple answer to this, Loft surface. Copy paste new surface, reverse normals, group, connect, extrude....Voila Instant dimensional surface

Actually, there is a great plugin (free) named 'MakeThicker' that automates this process for you and works particularly well with complex surface objects... it is also useful for hollowing out (shelling) objects prior STL export.

Also, there is another plugin (you may have) here called 'Saw' that works like Lightwave's BandSaw tool.

download here:

PS both plugins work well in R8

Thanks for the info. I figured there must be a plug-in for this....
