Title: Dodge Charger '69
Name: Nick Sotiriadis
Country: Greece
Software: 3ds max, Brazil r/s, Photoshop, Rhino

Dodge Charger '69. I modeled this using Rhinoceros 3d and rendered in 3D Studio Max using the Brazil R/S. Photoshop was used for the textures.
Modeled inside-out and also modeled parts of the engine but didn't finish the engine because of lack of good reference photos.
Crits are welcome as well as any requests of any hints I can give out for the creation of this render. :)
I am currently looking for a job, especially here in Greece but any serious offers will be taken under consideration.

nice Charger!!!

Don#t you think the reflection on the top parts is a little to heavy? Looks like big white parts, no gradients there. hmmm

How about a front view? :)

thanks guys, you know it's great when you work for quite some time and you get this satisfaction afterwards; i love this feeling.

truth is i've waited for quite some time before i finished this because i was in the army for a year, so not much time to work on it (i started it a year ago, but was only given the chance to finish it the last month). i was in a base camp, supposed to watch for enemies, but i was modeling parts of the car in my mind.... :)

Great stuff, good job on the details.

The sides seem somewhat too flat to me. Ask Coaster (http://forums.cgsociety.org/member.php?userid=112881), he did this model as well.

well, i had others 'complain' about the side being so flat also. it's true i also noticed it myself in the reference pics, and i think it was a mistake not to add this detail since it's a photorealistic model and people in such work tend to look for all kind of errors/mistakes. i think i can fake it now by using a map with different ior on the side but it will still show flat from some angles. thinking to add a couple of more renders, i'll try to make you guys happier by 'erasing' this error :) thanks for pointing out

great car, great work! in the first image (the motion blured one) id love to see maybe a little tiny bit of dirt, especially on the clean, outstandig bumper chrome.

great detail and shader in the interior. maybe some folds in the leather and a little less reflection in the pedals shader (just to my likeness).

that rocks!

It looks great... but yes... the sides are way too flat.

Other than that it's nice.

Nice work!
Those sides are tricky, I didn't notice the crease for a while, and on mine it's overdone, here it's flat, between us we've made the perfect side!

I guess that's the thing about this car, first impressions are, it's just a big flat boxy mother-f, on closer inspection there are all sorts of tiny subtle things. I found modelling it was an ongoing thing...

If you're going to have a look at the sides, I would have to say the roof is also a bit flat, there is a set of flat roofed blueprints going round, that I belive should be burned. I see a lot of flat roofed charger models out there and I wonder if these bad boys are to blame:curious: http://www.smcars.net/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=719&d=1141258519

Leather on the seats looks great, you've even got the stitching. In fact the whole interior looks excellent.:buttrock:

first of all, i don't know if i am going to make any corrections in this model. maybe add some dust or change colors, but nothing that has to do with modeling. i am wayyy too tired re-modeling because of lack of bad reference pics. i collected photos from all around the internet trying to sort out of strange angles what everything looks like. i spent more hours staring at photos rather than modeling :) ...

first of all, i am very honored about you commenting coaster. your model is very nicely done as well, you modeled more parts + you rigged and animated. very difficult task. well done again :)

i know you can understand me about how this car might seem flat and boxy to some, but it was a bitch to model actually, especially interior. and i like to be accurate so i kept remodeling again and again. i decided not to model anything if i don't have it in front of me or even if i don't have a clear view in my mind of how exactly something looks. good thing you had that fella that helped you with photos of his car, it must have been a true help!

as for the seats, i modeled them not paying too much attention, but i didn't like the result, so i remodeled the seats and textured stitchings one by one. took me 2 days just to texture the seats using channels. the leather needed a lot of tweaking as well.

here are pics of stuff modeled not seen in the renders. i could do renders of the back with the trunk opened, but the hood is very empty so, i abandoned it...

here you go...

Nice Job Scooterlord.

I have been helping Coaster with his render (not in the rendering dept  ).....any questions about detail items about the actual car I can help.

Like on the seats themselves...you have the center pattern too far forward. There is another section of vinyl that acts as a boarder around the inner pattern

Excellent. Any hints about how you did the car paint material?

scooterlord

sure! i'll help! I wonder why people always find difficulties in rendering car paint material when it's so easy. first of all it's all about reflections. not only about car paint but about everything looking realistic. give it a good environment and it will show nice.

in detail. I picked a car color, added a few masks in diffuse map for the sticker on the rear. set as a reflection fresnel map, top color at grey (10,10,10) bottom color a bit more (like 50,50,50)and added glossy reflections (99%). well, that's about it :)

reflection is an hdri map, one of the free ones found in www.debevec.org (http://www.debevec.org) (beach probe). hope it helps

if anyone happens to be interested in this one it will be soon available in www.turbosquid.com (http://www.turbosquid.com) for sale! :) I thought you guys should know...

Imatk
07-13-2006, 12:18 AM
I sure hope you will price it accordingly.

With that level of detail you should charge a premium for it.

It constantly amazes me that there are so many great models available on Turbosquid and other sites that can be had for $200!

These guys are TOTALLY selling themselves short... and Turbosquid and others just sit back and rake in the profit.

Ok... off my soapbox... back to the previously scheduled show...
