Hey!

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y4/devil_insid3/Sketches/galo.jpg

Decided to give a try.
I dunno the name of this kind of bird in English, but we have this for like two years and he sing all the time we talk to him. We like him a lot, so I decided to draw him. It's from memory.

It was done in 20 minutes in openCanvas 1.1.

I was the kid who's parents could afford a pet, so they told me the new mailbox was my pet. Oh the fun Sammy Mailbox and I had. We played together all day sometimes, until that tragic Christmas morning he was struck down by a car . . . . .

By the way, a lot of parents told their kids that. Right?

Okay, so I sketched this first in pencil, scanned it, and then painted completely over it. So I'm not sure whether to count the time it took me to sketch out my idea since it was just a guideline and doesn't show up in the painting. But just in case, here it is at 35 minutes:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v371/Vizon/Reference/WIP/MyPet_35min.jpg
And here at about 45 (which would be 35 if the underlying sketch doesn't count :P):

Yes, very sweet indeed, Zyrinx - reminds me of the hours I spent trying to catch birds by throwing salt on their tails and an also considerable amount of time I spent planting feathers to grow chickens :) .

Here's mine - I opted for a little caricatural approach of a Persian cat - the first one within the delay - the next about an hour / an hour and a half later. I kind of like it and will perhaps work some more on it :

Augustus: whaaa, cool I simply love it. great style

Jeroentje: nice, eyes and fur are very impressive. beautiful cat.

Here mine, I do not really have a dog and because of this, he doesn't looks like that. My girldfriend have 2 cats and I don't have any ref pics. So I began to draw a cat and it mutate to a dog by itself! I played with some new brush I download today.

Wow everyone, doing so well, I wish I could paint as well as you guys. I'm constantly trying to paint but it seems that the quality of the paintings greatly varies from piece to piece. I seem to be switching styles constantly, but I can't grasp the one that is working right.

Vizon, CUTE PETS! I love their poses, reminds me of a Mr. and Mrs. Smith meets Ice Age poster somehow, lol.

GSmiley: I love that! It's gorgeous; the composition is fantastic and the colors are brilliant. Your brushwork is amazing as well.

ThePhotographer: I like it so far, very cute!

jeroentje: Spectacular! Very realistic. I wish I had a kitty. :( I can almost feel it's uber soft fur.

ptMAe: Awwwwwwww... (lol, love those eyes)

dunkelgold: Beautiful!

Augustus: Eeep! So cute! Huggability +10.

Zyrinx: Aww, that makes me sad, but who knows how many pet rocks there were.

Raintears: Very nicely done! Great anatomy work!

Aaaah my piece was so frustrating. I just cannot get the hand to look right. maybe I should revert back to my "lets just finish this entire painting with a single style of brush" times, they seem to turn out much more consistently. I don't like it very much but the original idea I had for this piece was supposed to be awesome. :(

All I have are 5 fish because my dad is paranoidly scared (not insane) of anything larger than a fish that isn't human. He hates cats.

Thanks Vitreous and UrbanKunoichi, but even though the pose came out okay the paint job stunk. I just didn't start out large enough to use that brush. So I had to try again (which I can do since I'm unemployed at the moment and have all day). So here's Poke, using the oil brush (which came out a lot better than the camel hair acrylic I last used).

Every time I read the rules on these I get more and more confused. Did this particular thread start today? Also, wouldn't it be better to (along with the post number) put the date of the thread in the subject line? For me anyhow, if it was named by the date (eg Tues 4-11-06) it would just seem more clear that it's todays sketch.

Anyhow, not trying to whine or anything of the sort. I like these. I've been meaning to draw my pet for a while, this would have been a great thread to start with for me.

Okay, late and a rather bad choice - I'm not good with hair, and this lil ol' dog was nothing but (predominantly Pomeranian) - black, too. Oh, well - can't get better unless you practice.
