Hello,

I just started with a character project. Will post some more information soon. This is what I got now. I am using 3DsMax and a little help of Zbrush for the first time.

The hat is just temporary he will receive a nicer one soon :D

What do you think...

very nice model so far. :) Could you post some wires of the face to? I like the look of him, he looks like a mobster or something. But I think if you did the like white T-shirt or something and no hat, that might look more... tough?

I like the modeling, has the gansta look to it, but i'm not satisfied with the texturing, needs to be more gritty, some scars, some variation to the skin and the eyebrows look like they're just pasted on right now.

On the lighting... it's really easy to add final gather or hdri lighting to make any model pretty, but I think that cartoon or stylized characters deserve real light setups, 3, 4, or 5 pt lighting setups. I like to go with 4 cuz 3 can sometimes limit the areas you can light up on certain models. The lack of a rim light on your last render makes him look a little flat.

Thank you m8! I agree the lightning sucks it is just a vray light with gi. I am still working on the scars and all the things that will make him realy ugly and ofcourse the texture will need a lot of time to not to mention the brows :D

thnx, André

I would also be careful about the eyes too. Are the irises modelled flat...? And be careful that the eyes do not become too reflective

A little update on the head and a quick sketch on the car so you all can get an impression at what I am going for in the final.

What do you think?

NeptuneImaging

I really like the setting inside the car. It reminds me of the mobster in the bug bunny cartoons, um, what is his name....Edgar T. Robinson (you hear me see, nyah! I'm surprised I knew who that was when I was a kid).

About the eyes from my previous, when you model the iris flat, with the indentation for the pupil, you get better refraction :)

Keep this model going though, I like it.

like the scene and the though guy.. but it kinda seems as the shoulders are too small, or that he is too tense... might be that your not done with it yet, but something disturbes me around the shoulders... think they need to be wider... just a though;) like it really much..

Hoping for more renders:)

Thnx for you reply m8! The reason the shoulders are so small is because that he don't have shoulders yet ahah. I am planning to work on the suit this weekend and finish it with textures. I will keep you all posted!:wise:

Looking good there, alot of potential. SKin looks abit too plastic so far and you could define the region above the eyes more in zbrush, but looking great so far...keep it up !

You're making good progress, however you need to tweak some things a bit like other people already said. Maybe you could work out the clothes a bit more.
But the head is really cool btw!

It's looking really good so far. I really like the moles, warts, wrinkles and the rough, realistic texture of the skin that you have obtained! But there are a few things I think you could fix.

1. The eyes still seem a bit too big and shiny.
2. The eyebrows look really rough--are you going to be updating them?

3. I think the lips should definetly have a little more detail and perhaps a slightly darker color
4. Perhaps add more detail around eyes (like folds of his eyelids and bags under his eyes)
5. More detail around the neck (fat folds) and perhaps some sign of facial hair (even a "shaved" look)

Thank you for the reply. I will look what I can do with the comments. I was planning to update the facial hair and lips so we are on the same track ahah.

Andre
