I recently have this idea of having a submersible (that I plan to build someday) and manned by a small robot.
So, I thought why not start designing this craft right here.

The journey will be on the bottom of the ocean. Much of the worlds ocean are still unexplored. The Pacific ocean for example holds the deepest depths located from the south of the Philippines to all the way to the Polynesian and Micronesian Islands.

The image inserted here is just barely starting- sketching it. Eventually I will add a few flippers as some say also known as dolphins. The goal of this expedition or journey is to beam pictures and videos as well as to study the bottom of the ocean.

now i place some dolphins and later add some jelly fish. i started also sketching the shape of the submersible craft. eventually there will be a small robot inside that will maneuver this underwater craft.

also, above the craft i added a diver which suggest to oversee the initial stage of the expedition the distance from it is around 5 to 7 feet as the submersible started on its way. it was welcomed with joy by some dolphins who hang around the area to witness the event.

i also want to add some sea lions or seals.

this will be the robot that will be riding inside the submersible. shes only about 3 and half feet tall.

Yo kabayan kamusta tayo dyan? :) It dont seem like you're expressing much with your ideas right now. Have fun with it! Go crazy and knock yourself out :scream: The crazier the better! Work out the believability later.

What I'm trying to say tsong, yung designs mo at the moment looks a bit generic. The robot and the submersible looks pretty much like the ones that we've seen before. You gotta add personality to your designs and in the end, this whole image as well needs to speak out and explode by itself. Just get in there and grab this thing by the balls man :scream: Dont be too "in the box".

Still early in the contest. Lotsa time to develop whatever dude. Goodluck!

I really like the robot design, it's cute and not too fancy, but it does need some accents to it. How bout putting somekind of head gear that looks like a pigtail, you did said it was a 'she' right? I think it would add some personality.
For the robo-sub, I have an idea, you should try using a sea animal shape it would be much more interesting, like a robo-jellyfish or a robo-anglerfish, stuff like that, what do ya think? i think that's pretty cool. Good luck!

I like the line art very much. I also like the first lone diver image, in an endless or bottomless sea could be very good.

ahbeejieh - thanks for your comments. well, your perception is somehow different to what others have said. The term you used "go crazy" thats fine when i am trying to make an image/illustration that depicts funny with humour like situation. but with this image i am doing right now it doesnt call for a whacky kind of theme but instead that of a little serious type of motif of a character (robot) was commisioned to go to the deep. well, the deepest portion (for the most part) of the pacific is still unexplored. we are talking of proportions here, the earth is 2/3 water and we havent seen much and studied what its like down there.
i think everyone can choose a certain 'motif' (design subject) in relation to the required theme as specified in the challenge. and so you are free to have a funny type of image as well as not so funny, or serious one. i even saw one entry that has a very scary kind of theme in his image. so really the subject matter will dictate what you ought to design in your illustration.

skyisnotthelimit - you are definitely not limiting the sky (just kidding) i've seen your work and i am impressed, didnt know that there are very good artist from indonesia like you. yes, about modifying the robot design i will try that and post it here later.

arcfire - thanks for dropping by. i think your work has potential, i will visit it again and witness the progress.

I have to agre w/ ahbeejieh--it's not that the "Story" and the "Reasoning" aren't incredibly adventuristic, but the picture doesn't support it.

I'm reminded of a Magic: The Gathering card called "The leviathan"; it was this dark creature in the depth of the sea that was about to swallow a sperm whale. Very subtle, but it gave an intense feeling of enormity (all on a tiny card!).

I think a downward facing perspective might help this reflect what you're going for.

Technically, though, I'm diggin this piece! Good luck with whichever direction you go!

thanks for the reply man!

Yeah, love what you did to the robot's face, she's cute , the pigtails are working too, but I think you should make it less curvateous make it more machine-like, and put some of those line details. Can't wait for your next update!

Funny, I'm planning to use the same Illustrator/Photoshop technique for my own character :)

Looking good so far. I would remove the diver, but I like it so far.

Cheers, Jeroen

yeah i didnt want to make it look too serious and so I gave it a little funny looking treatment to it. i am considering about removing the diver but on one thought it intended to be there for the purpose of conveying depth to it as the journey/ expedition to the "Underworld" have just commmenced or started. The diver is not suppose to go along with the submersible but only just for a few moments to take a glimpse the initial stage of the journey.

As i recall from memory the submarine can only go around 1,500 feet (i cant remmber the exact figures) or so of depth beyond that it will be impossible as it will not be able to handle the water pressure. This submersible is designed to go to where no submarine can go; a depth where only the giant squids, octopus about the size or bigger than whales. They dwell down there at the deepest part of the pacific ocean. Part of this expedition is to study the underworld hoping to shed some light as to why the whales are going to the ocean shores and doesnt want to go back. The study will also bring samples using the robotic hands/arms to know the exact age of the earth.

I am also planning to add robotic dolphins.
