Hi all

been a while since my last post, became a father of a beautiful son, he's now 2 months old:)....since he's nolonger a wip, here's a bit of work i managed to sneak in, between the diaperchanges:)

there's no exact story behind it..he's a part of an ongoing kids-television edutainment concept im developing (further) from time to time.

lemme hear some c&c if u feel like it

hey crash, thanks for the positive feedback:)

as for the skin texture, there is none right now...which is probably why it looks a bit on the standard lambert'ish side..which it is:)

if u could, and feel up to it, could u elaborate on why the texturing isnt working for u? (coat, pants, and vest textured, rest isnt as of yet)

Cheers

it's awesome!!! Models like this are soooo cool...cloths fitting so perfectly and such....but my question is an honest one...how the heck do rig something like that and make it that good when animated.

Another question...How long would it take you to rig it?

hey man awsome work !

I like it a lot!
as for what Crash said about the textures...
I agree on some parts...
The coat looks very good on my opinion, but the vest and pants looks kinda stiff... like they're made of stone or something (especially the pelvis area, with that weird fold... looks like his underwear is showing :) )

and another thing I just noticed...
it looks like this guy is not the thinnest guy in the world. Infact, he's got a little extra fat around the stomach, and as you notice, he's lacking 2 buttons on his shirt. So, if it's only 2 buttons holding the vest together, and I see some wrinkles around them, so where there aren't any buttons, the vest should stretch out a bit, leaving some more wrinkles around the button-less holes. That would emphasize the small beer-belly this guy is starting to develop :)

other than that... it's all good! keep up the very good work!

thanks for the feedback:)

good question wanna3d:)

It would depend on the needs for it:

The major hurdle would be the coat as i see it, im still contemplating my options, for instance if i was to make a walkcycle with the character maybe i could get away with some blendshapes(morphs), in another case, i could setup a rig that would be a duplicate of the upper body's for the top part of the coat, and have some more intricate setup consisting of joint chains controlled by a softbody spline with some rigid bodys parented or constrained to the splines cv's and then have those collide with the rest of the character....not sure how well that would work, would have to test it...finally i could go all out in a clothsimulation which would most likely kill my computer:)

If anyone have any suggestions or experience with something like this coat..please do tell.

As for the rest of the character it would be a pretty straigthforward job of setting up a good skeleton, painting weights, and working with influence objects or blendshapes for good deformation, controlled by some set driven keys. For a task like that, and assuming i worked effeciently on it, i'd say 1½ days of work with all the fittings.

When all that is said, im not a characteranimator, and since this is a personal thing, i'll probably build a skeleton suitable for posing, and go with remodelling/refitting the coat according to the stills i intend to make:)

(scuze the maya lingo..tis my app after all:)

good observation soundwav_, i should implement that, would make that part look less rigid.

guess u're right about the textures aswell...luckily(yeah right..) i had to redo the pants uv's...and hence im forced to redo the texture on those:) guess the vest needs some more attention aswell

thanks for the crits

Needs some hair on him, maybe some stubble and eyebrows and eyelashes. Also, the eyes look really huge, I'm not sure if this was intentional, but you might want to make them a bit smaller. Besides that, and some more work on the skin, boot, and pant textures, it is looking really great! Love the coat surface...

PS Congrats on becoming a father...

thanks for the replies guys, i'll work on the crits which are all valid:)

he's a bit on the alcoholic side, so he will have long greasy hair and stubbles to match...eventually...
