Anyone else wanna bet this film will break the 1 billion dollar worldwide box-office barrier?

Check it out here: http://www.worldwideboxoffice.com (just type in "lord" in the search box.)

400 million worldwide after 2 weeks is simply nuts.
Can you imagine what ROTK is gonna rake in... my god.

awesome!!!! did anyone have any doubt????

by the time the 3rd one comes out with the dvd sales and box office of the first 2 that movie will prolly be at around 3 billion..............i think if they are making THAT much money on these movies they should have the opening midnite show be free!!!!! because all of us midnite watchers are going to be seeing it 3 or 4 times and we were there at midnite for 1 and 2!

lol

these movies are making so much money that the ROTK dvd could be given away at the opening nite of ROTK and they would still have made some of the biggest profits ever!!!

It was like 300 mil to make all 3 movies and is going to end up making over 4 billion by the time ROTK is on dvd and they start selling box sets............finally after all these years, New Line got a real winner.........

The funny thing is that Hollywood was convinced that it would tank. Hell Miramax passed the buck to New Line.
There were talks before LOTR of folding New Line into its parent company WB.

While this is true, take note that the Weinsteins are still the major investors in the movie. So even though their studio passed, they still shelled out the cash.

I wonder with the sucess of this film if they greenlight a live action version of The Hobbit.
That would be nice.

Back when Peter Jackson was first starting on preproduction of LOTR he said that he would take on Hobbit if LOTR succeeded. In his recent interviews since the first movie came out people have asked him if he was interested in still doing the hobbit and he said that he will probably do something else because by the end of this he will have allready put 8 years into LOTR.

As far as I'm concerned, some of these studios don't put any money, they serve as guaratees in case the project fails and in return get the distribution of the films and huge piece of the cake later on of course. As such, they supervise the financial issues concerning production costs, etc. I know pretty well how LOTR was conceived in this aspect but I'm not sure if it's right to comment on it so I'll shut up.

Anyway to give you guys a better in-deph overview of the subject here goes a link that might interest you.

They used Renderman and I think one rederman compliant propriatary renderer created in house and also another proprietary renderer for Massive called Grunt which simplified things in terms of rendering speed for the digital crowds.

At the end of the end credits you can see the legend "Rendered with Pixar's Renderman"
