Ok I started on this head a while ago, but it was a mess. So I decided this weekend to try to fix it and remodel. And paid more attention to the edgeloops. It's not finished but here's the result so far.

Well, you should take care of the eyebrows region wich is too prominent and near the eye should be less concave. Also the eye is too wide opened ad should be more defined, it's a very complex area and that's it that gives life to the character!
I also think the region between thr nose and the cheek should be a little more concave, you should give it a sense ov gravity with the skin softer.

However good work for a first head!

ok I tried to make the changes you suggested. I hope I understood them correct ;)

nice first one hiostu

a few crits:

first thing that springs to mind (besides the missing ear) is that the skull/back of the head seems a bit small.

the jaw and cheek area could do with a bit more definition, so could the lips, they seem very "round"

furthermore u could spend some more time on making the whole nosetip/furrow somewhat bigger and perhaps narrow the nosebridge some.

there are some problems with the lower eyelid too..seems a bit thin and the cheekbone seems to go unnaturally high, leaving little space for the eyesocket (which come across as too small and having this "fast inward extruded" look to it)

lastly i think u have some problems with the way the nosebridge meets the brow and "floats" into the eye region.

would be nice to see a few different angles of the head, makes it easier to get a feel of the whole thing

finally, u could study some more on the human proportions/anatomy, and possible use some reference either on the side or on imageplanes directly in ur 3d app of choice, whichever it is

hope that this can be of some help to u

Ok... better, but I think you should work more:
The red line draws how the profile ov the eyebrow should be, more convex and not concave.
The eye is still to wide opened, the upper eyelid should touch upon the pupil Ublue line).
The green area, between the eyebrows, should be smooth, as now seems too monkey style :D
And the orange lines indicates the region that should be much modeled. Try to "sculpt" there, look at your own at a mirror to see how it should be.

Having good anatomical references helps a lot!

Keep on  , nbice model!

Thanx guys these are crits that help a lot. I'll try to make some changes tomorrow.

But LordGolem, I don't quite understand what you mean with the following sentence:

And the orange lines indicates the region that should be much modeled

It's hard to explayn 'cause I can't speak english very well :D

However I think that region has such a straight line from the nose and the cheekbone as if the nose was flat on the cheek. That region should be more concave, and should follow the flowing of the facial muscles.

Ok some updates on the crits and a few more views. But there are a few dents in the mesh that I need to get out. And of course the nose is still not right.

The expression is better, but I think the eyebrows region is still too prominent.
Looking at the wireframe I can see you haven't followed the flow of the facial muscles very well, you should always follow that flow and you'll see the right details come out "magically" :D

Well I redid the middle part of the face....

After that I bought a wacom and started texturing the head. It's all a first time and not perfect yet. But I'm learning a lot here.

update: some variations in the skin colour, added a bit darkness to side of the eyesocket. Rendered using GI and 1 light.

Now a good way to create some eyelashes and eyebrows. For the eye lashes I tried to create a mesh roughly the shape and put a texture on it with opacy. But that didn't come out very nice. Maybe I should give it another try.

ok three things with the texturing, the "shaved beard" is ends too sharply at the edges, the lips are too red for that skin tone and colour and the "ridges" of your lips are too even. Very good go for your first head.

Yes I know the things you just mentioned. But I have to find a good way to do that. I'm not very good at photoshop. So if someone could give me some advice on how to do that in a good way (I was thinking of a color burn layer on it).
