View Full Version : WIP: Confrontation

Hi, I had this idea of an old wizard and his apprentice doing their first real training with monsters in a forest. My intention is to depict the fear of the apprentice as he or she (haven't decided yet) has his/her first encounter with a real monster.
Here's a thumbnail sketch of the scene and the composition I had in mind. I'd like to hear your comments before I continue with this. Next step would be to resize the picture and start to render a bit more detail.
btw. I'm not a native english speaker (obviously) so I'm not 100% sure if the image title is right for this picture. Please let me know if it sounds strange..

It's quite small to really make a judgement .... but I find it looks like a very good starting point. Now go on and do something really nice with what you have here. It looks very correct to me, but do some finishing to make it look perfect.

Actually I started to add detail to the wizard only to realize I have no idea what kind of clothes wizards are using. I'll have to collect some reference images for inspiration and proprably do some character scetches with pencil before I can continue with this.

I agree with the photographer : it's a good beginning, and in this thumb, we can already feel the atmosphere and the story...(the human's poses looks good for me)
Your subject has a lot of potential, in terms of drama. I am sure that the next step, bigger, will be very impressive.
Maybe the beast pose is actually too human, or too present, ..or too straight(rigid)?
But, i know it's just a starting point...

Ok, here's a little update. These are pencil sketches of the wizard. Damn it's hard to draw old people. I still have to work on that hood too, it just doesn't look right. Any suggestions?
ps. Sorry for the bad image quality. I'm on vacation and don't have access to my scanner. Had to take these pictures with camera.
