Roberto here: This week we will be assisting the good folks at the FXWARS forum.
We will be doing some concept art for their next challenge (RACE CAR CRASH!)

Please feel free to draw images of ANY time period, time present or future. The race cars, can be from any sport league (nascar, f1, go kart, Vulcan desert league etc) The idea is for the good folks at the FX wars forum to try to make your drawings come to life.
Today's Note:

__________________________________________________ _______

NEW RULE

* You have 35, (count them 35!) minutes to do your sketch.
IF you go beyond the assigned time limit , you have to post WHATEVER you have done after the time has expired, along with the FINAL drawing

Also, I will add a new voting category, called THE FASTEST DRAW
__________________________________________________ _______

"The Driver"

We will try to post one of these topics once a day for your enjoyment.

These are the rules:
* Post only your FINAL piece on this thread, based on the topic on the thread.
* RESOLUTION : The image can have any aspect ratio up to 800 x 600
* They can be done on any medium.
* If you wish, you can add a brief text description about your piece.
* Only original compositions. No "tributes" or plagiarizing, unless is it an integral part of the challenge.
* The topics will be posted every day between 10:00 - 12:00 am US EST.
* The artist also has to post total length of time it took (Thanks Clanger for the idea) and program used.
* Only final pieces can be posted on the thread. They must have been done AFTER the topic has been announced.
* Any piece caught breaking the rules will be taken off the thread.
* The topics will be picked at random from the list on this thread
(The author will be given credit). So guys keep them coming.
*You can add multiple entries, but please dont post WIP (Unless you intend to update them). NEW RULE!
* Ill post ANOTHER thread to quantify and track WHO has participated the most on these threads.

Good luck

Ok I thought I'd give this DSG thing a try once again...35min in PS...Due to this super fast time limit I decided I would not have time to draw scan and paint...so I just went straight to it in PS...Thanks Goro for the PS brushes.

ThePhotographer: i can't tell who it is in the sketch, but you have an interesting combination of colors in the image, like an abstract "mood" capture, very cool :)
Vizon: nice sketch!
rawwad: awesome as always!

my sewer-racing driver.. a creature bred to withstand prolonged exposure to graviton flux generated by the hover-car's engines, and survive high-speed crashes lol
20mins, photoshop7 and a weird mood :D

I must admit I have not been very good at keeping with a theme for all of my pieces with the race challenge - but I have really enjoyed this topic

The car in the background is from the tutorial off of cardesignnews.com - I have been out doing a little research with all the car stuff we have been doing - I wish I would have had more time to spend on the figure.

deaderthanred - Very cool creature
rawwad - I really like it - reminds me of mad max!

Ps, 25 min , I wanted more to represent the 'Spirit' of the driver than the act.

rawwad->really good rendering but may be could be better about symetrical composition.
all other -> Sympathic !

Always awesome to see more work by FridayEve

Well, this DSG session was especially fun for me because it helped me settle on a style for my futuristic driver for a 3D contest (racing theme) I'm participating in elsewhere on the web. I started modeling last night and made much progress. Here are two WIP previews several hours into this after the sketch to give an idea of how that's going: image 1 (http://www.artofinterpretation.com/images/f1driver-byrjt2006.jpg), image 2 (http://www.artofinterpretation.com/images/f12006-driver2-byrjt2006.jpg)

Looking forward to seeing more sketches.

Have a great weekend everyone!

The last DSG I did was ages ago... wish I had more time to do these. Anyways, here it is... experimenting with a new stroke style:

Some issues with the anatomy + foreshortening I'm not hapy with... but the scratchiness may be going somewhere. Hmm...

Well here's my sketch of 35 mins for "The Driver"
I was rushing on this one.
Done in Photoshop 7.0
20 mins for the rough sketch, 10 for a few details, and 5 for the quick hue, linear dodges and gradients. Everyone keeps pickin on racing, so I just wanted to go with a normal driver who thinks that cars and driving ain't that special. :

I wanted to do another driver. Actually this is my 3rd or 4rth driver, cos my eyes got tired. So I deleted one and I'm still thinking about the other :)

30-35 minutes, Artrage2.
http://www.marlonart.nl/web/driver03.jpg
around 10 minutes for posture (yeah, I know it's a bit weird LOL) and the rest adding and deleting stuff.

Okay, my first-ever sketch for CG. Just got my Wacom & Painter IX on Friday.

20 minutes. And Painter IX, obviously. :p

P.S. Yeoh, I think you're on to something there. That technique looks pretty cool.
