View Full Version : Model: Arabian horse
gnarlycranium 12-29-2002, 02:00 AM Well... it's a horse. Not much else to say about that. I'm trying to lay out the basic shape right now, almost ready to start detailing. The head and the chest are giving me the most trouble right now.

Quite good for a basic shape !! :)
i don't see any major problems with the head (except in the area of the neck connecting to the head) and chest but here are some minor flaws i do see : the nostrils looks a litlle bit too rounded and " straight", i think you need to beef him up: ie horses usually have a very strong muscle structure, and right now it shows, but not enough although from your references it is not obvious wether it's a "young" horse or not , but from your model it seems so, this could explain him beeing less "strong".
The eyes, ears and overall shape looks very nice though.:applause:
Could you post some other views ?
Cheers ! Keep it up !

:D Thanks! Yeah, I took some detail out of the nostrils when I cleaned up the head mesh some-- it's hard to make them the right shape without making the whole head too high-poly. I've only just sewed the head onto the neck, I haven't bothered messing much with that junction yet... that'll come next. I've been getting some beef about the shape of the neck-- Arabians are seriously wacked compared to other horses, and it's going to be hard to get that right without making the thing look just plain deformed. As for the muscles, I've only just now started trying to define the ones on the elbows and chest, and it ain't goin well.. ack.

Here's a closeup of the head-- tweaked the lighting just a little, and stuck in a proper darn eyeball just because I so love those. Helps me visualize the thing more real if there's eyes looking out at me from it.
