Title: The Sentinel
Name: Robert Buckley
Country: USA
Software: Bryce, Photoshop, ZBrush
The Sentinel is my interpretation of one of the late Andre Norton's Zacathans doing sentinel duty on a desert world. The background sky and clouds were generated in Bryce. The sentinel, laser rifle, unihog, plant and desert rock forms were modeled in ZBrush using the techniques described in the Gnomon Workshop DVD "ZBrush for Illustration" by Meats Meier and "Detailing Characters: ZBrush Alpha Library" by Aaron Sims. After carving and inflating details into the boulders, I created texture maps from photos of Martian rocks sent back by the Spirit and Opportunity rovers and applied them in Projection Master. Instead of applying textures I selected colors and surface materials from Material Pack 2 and made multiple renders. The rendered images of the objects (head and torso, plant, rifle, unihog, boulders) were then assembled and blended in Photoshop to create the final image. Comments are welcomed.
