Kinda late in the game but I did not know if I had enough free time to even make an attempt.

To me what got me excited about the theme was not the journey itself...but rather trying to solve the question of why undertake the journey. The reality is the vast majority of us will never ever make even an attempt at an epic journey. To do something that is out of our comfort zone, unless we are forced into it. That is the pathos of the theme that intrigued me. The event that forces the journey. I guess that is what I am trying to capture..that decisive moment where we are pushed into taking that first step.

Work is kinda light right now so got stuff done. I would like to throw in at least one more ork with a horse bow but don't want to crowd the composition any further. Perspective is still needs to be tweaked especially around the feet to make the mother placing her children look and feel more solidly planted on the gound.

Thanks, finishing the illustration would be the hard part :) Something about Murphy's law that seems to love me right around when deadlines are due.

Concept sketches for attacking forces. Still not happy. Plus another thought..The maximum canvas size is huge!! Thats what I get for working predominently in video resolutions. Made me rethink my composition.

The dino makes the scene really hard to read. Maybe 'zoom out' a bit or change the position of the dinosaur...?

Definitely agree with you. Didn't realize I has so much space.

Tweaked the concept a bit. The original just seemed too tight.

Started to fill in more details. Added more scroll work on the landshark with the sword but forgot to take the bowman in the foreground, so stuff got covered. I decided to go with more aquatic type beasties just cuz orks just seemed to cliche. Not the Dragons and elves are original ideas. Also creates a better contrast not just in terms of color but elements, land and air vs the sea.

Started playing around with some depth of field ideas. right now they are simple blurs. Haven't decided if I want to use DOF or just to use color to convey distance.
