Title: Perdido street station-cover
Name: Marc Simonetti
Country: France
Software: Photoshop

This illustration was made as a cover for the french edition of "Perdido street station", a tremendous SF novel from China Mieville.
The universe of the book is a subtile mix between steampunk and Lovecraft's books.

I was all made with photoshop, I hope you'll like it.

Comments most welcome!

Hi!
I really like the tones, and the sense of depth (different scales of archi etc...)
The caracters poses are great too, they are full of story, mysterious (it is not just an amazing painting of architecture)
Makes me want to read the book.
Bye

I had read the American edition of the novel... but I would have recognized it even without the title of the thread. Very notable interpretation and illustration! 5 golden stars from me!!!

That's such a freakily weird coincidence! I'm reading this book RIGHT NOW! :D

The feel of the book is far more dark, dirty and visceral compared to your image, but I love the grand scale of the city you've achieved.

Ben... J'adore... et heu... j'aime beaucoup. J'ai dit que j'adorais?

Seriously, this point of view makes me feel like i'm falling, really stressful, I didn't read the book, but... is really good, I'm in the picture... or pictures, since I see two different sides, two different pictures, could this be that we are seeing the front and the verso of the book?

Love the colors, the sense of depth and the amount of insinuated detail allover the picture. Very well composed in my opinion. My eyes are moving without obstacles over all the areas. Good Job.

Regards.

). Très beau travail ! ;)

I agree with the others. It's very much as I perceived the scenery of the city of New Crobuzon. One thing bothers me though. The head of the female character (Lin if I remember correctly) should be a scarab with legs and the carapace and all, rather than that of an ant. I like the Garuda character (although I imagined him a little more haggard). Great work nevertheless!

What a fantastic picture. And the pipes down the middle are the perfect solution to the "wrap around" needs of a publisher. The sense of depth is amazing, and you've captured the steampunk look, too. Excellent all the way around and a definite five star piece.
