View Full Version : particle problem
TBKoen 12-28-2002, 05:57 PM hi guys, i have a little problem.
i want to create a school of fish, but i'm kinda stuck.
i used a particle system with instant geometry (the fish) and make it follow a path. this looks all fine.
they DO turn with the path, but now the fish swim sideways:)
i tried all kind of stuf like rotating the original fish and rotating the pivot.
but it doens't seem to effect the particals. and i can't seem to find any option where i can manipulate the direction of the axis.
please i need some help. i work with max 3.1 btw

hi TBKoen
well some time back i did similar kind of animation, well i also tried using particles but there's one more way you can work it out thats if you use "CROWD" feature of Character Studio 3, this will be very easy to solved with crowd and its quite easy and fast you can also find some tutorial at www.maxhelp.com and some tutorials also ship with character studio 3 c.d..
hope this help you.

No need for character studio!!!!!
In your particle parameters, scroll down and play with the rotation and collision parameters. You have to re-orient them to follow the path properly. It's a piece of cake. Play with it.
In Spin Axis controls,
change it to User Defined,
then play with the values to suit the animation.
No worries!!!!!!!

i have the "direction of travel/mblur" box signed instead of User defined. User defined doesn't seem to have any effect on the instant geometry
and the direction of travel works. but they just swim sideways :insane:

Trust me. Continue to try. This IS your problem.
