Hello again!
So here's my problem.... I'm trying to apply some particle effects to a JPEG sequence. I select the footage, go to the Operators and select particles. The next thing that happens is that the entire footage becomes opaque white. i can't see any of the image underneath it. I can apply an emitter and choose my particles (wispy smoke or whatever) and the particles appear ... but on a solid white background.

Any idea what I'm doing wrong??

ok
i would create a Particle new layer above the sequence in the stack
Make sure that you have transparent selected on and i always make sure the layer is set to a color most like the hue that the particles are going to be over. It just seems to help with the anti-aliasing.
Once u hit ok, u will be in a blank layer. this is simply the particle layer showing by itself. Select a particle type and use the appropriate emitter in the toolbar to create an emitter near the center of this particle layer. It doesnt matter that perhaps the particles are in the upper left of your scene as you can transform the layer there later. Create the emitter in the blank window, then go dble-click on your composite. You will then see the particle layer with your sequence and it is ready to be animated or tracked, whatever you may be doing.

hope this helps
